A: Brother doesn't recommend using 3rd party or refilled ink. It voids the Brother Warranty & it clogs the Print-head. there is a saying "Cheap is Expensive"!

We typically maintain a fresh inventory of our inks, but unfortunately, we cannot inspect these packages prior to their leaving the warehouse. A: No. the MFC-J497 only uses LC3011 or LC3013.

Been running the factory ink since the printer was purchased and it still works (knock on wood). I know, clone ink is cheaper, and it works for most people. But when it doesn't its too much work to fix. I like the printer, I run the Factory cartridges. The colors are good, the carts last awhile, and the most I need to do is a printhead clean once in awhile. It's a little like insurance. Running factory ink gives me peace of mind. (fingers crossed). If the printer were cheaper, or the printhead cheap and easy to replace, or I did huge volume than maybe I'd run aftermarket. 5

I know, clone ink is so much cheaper, it works almost as well, people have been running it forever. I still stick to OEM. It works as intended, I get a good run from each cartridge, and I like my printer. Running factory ink gives me peace of mind. (fingers crossed) 5

Actually, this review is for the black ink cartridge, and I haven't had to use it yet. My printer was out of magenta ink, and that's the only one I had to replace. I ordered all the others so I would have them when I ran out. I'm very pleased with my Brother printer, except that I must run the program to clean the cartridges when I haven't used it for a while. However, it is a great printer--and the ink has lasted a long time. 5
