The Tiffen 52mm 81 Light Balancing Filter helps to decrease the color temperature by 100K in order to warm the image slightly in order to match the color quality of illumination. When using an 81 filter, you will be able to attain 3200K balance when the prevailing light source is 3300K. The warming effect of this filter requires a 0.3-stop increase in exposure for normal results.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Any vignetting while using aps-c censor with 16 mm lens ( 24mm on full frame)

A: I use these filters with an 18mm lens and havent noticed any significant vignetting. Especially if you are correcting for your Lens profile in photoshop. The only serious draw back is at 18mm the rim of the filter is visible when I stack/screw them together to further slowdown the exposure. I have been getting by this by zooming in slightly to get the rim of the filter out of view. But when only using one filter at a time they work great.

Q: 2. will this filter fit Sigma 18 -35mm art series lens?

A: Get a step up ring and you can fit the 77 or the 82mm version of the Variable ND filter. I use set up rings on all my lenses that aren't 77mm so I can have fewer sets of filters.

Q: 3. Will these filters cause vignetting on a 12mm Rokinon f2 lens (mirror less)?

A: Hi, I have used 14mm and 8mm Rokinon lenses (which are fantastic by the way) but there would be no way to attach these filters onto them because the lens curves out, and there were no threads on mine so I'll assume there's no threads on yours either. Because of the fish-eye character of the lens using a larger 4 ND glass in a holder may work for the center area but would vignette on the edges of the frame. Good luck.

Q: 4. Works fine with blackmagic pocket 6k? Cause some filters make the image more REDish because the sensor. So, this filter will make the image REDish or no? Thank You

A: I do not see any color cast issues with this filter and never leave home without it. I use this filter for many situations with Canon 1DX 50mm 1.2, e.g., wide aperture during daylight or long exposure. My son uses this filter with Sony A7III Zeiss 50mm 1.4 to shoot video when limited to 1/50th shutter. Great filter; very versatile.

Q: 5. Which camera/lens brands do these filters can be used with? I have a Canon EOS Rebel T6

A: This filter kit will work with any camera lens which has 58mm filter threads

Q: 6. Will these filters (52 mm) fit a Nikon 5300 DSLR?

A: As long as you're using a lens that has a 52mm filter thread size, this kit will work with the Nikon 5300. I have the Nikon 18-55mm lens that I use this kit with. I also have a Nikon 55-300 lens that uses 58mm filters so I have two different sizes for my Nikon lenses I use with my 5300. Most lenses have a filter size indicator on the bottom side so you know what size to use. Look for a circle with a diagonal line through it then a number, which is the mm size of the filter threads. For instance, 52.

Q: 7. how do these tiffen lens stack up to Coken filters?

A: Cokin are square or rectangular and you need to use a filter holder and adapter ring. These you just screw on the lens, not need to carry extra parts. The advantage of the Cokin is if you want to stack many filters and you are using a wide angle lens, there is less chance of vignetting with the Cokin in that situation. Also in the Cokin if you use a graduated neutral density you can raise and lower the filter to place the horizon anywhere. With a round filter if you get a graduated ND the horizon will always be in the center.

Q: 8. Will this ND Filter work well with the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 II Lens? I am unsure if I will get the notorious X-Pattern when blocking the light at 8-Stops, because as mentioned it is a very wide lens (11-16mm). Does anyone have experience? I would buy the lens and the filter together, it seems a good bundle for land- and seascape.

A: Thin version, not for the x pattern, but because the thick version comes into view on wide angle lenses 24mm.

Q: 9. I've been searching everywhere for a variable ND filter for my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. Is this the one that will fit? It fits on the end of the lens right? I have an Olympus 40-150mm 1:4-5.6. then it has a circle with a line through it and a 58 by it. thats the filter thread, right? so if i have an olympus 17mm 1:2.8 pancake lens with a circle with a line through it and a 37 next to it, thats a 37 thread so I'll need this one, right: Polaroid 37mm Neutral Density Fader Filter

A: That is correct. The Olympus 40-150mm f/4-5.6 accepts 58mm filters, and the Olympus 17mm f/2.8 will accept the 37mm filter.

Q: 10. Is the end of this filter threaded?

A: The side of this ND filter that faces outward, away from the camera lens to which it is attached, is NOT threaded.

Does exactly what it's meant to...UV and protection. Very clean filter, no specs or waves in the glass like some other filters! Of all the filters I use, Tiffen has always been one I trust.

I don't expect much of UV filters, I get them to protect my lenses. Always have had one on my film SLR, my dSLR and on my bridge cameras with long lenses. Got this one to go with my new Canon SX40HS...then realized I had a better one already at one collecting dust, so I took that one, and put this one on that other lens. IT DOES WHAT IT SAYS IT WILL DO...what else can you ask?

It is very easy to put on the top of the lens, it does not fall, and it helps to protect the camera and the lens for a low price, without interfering with picture quality.
