Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How do I get this in audio format?

A: The Amphoto Book: Understanding Exposure, 4th Edition: How to Shoot Great Photographs with Any Camera is not available in audio format.

Q: 2. Will this baseplate work with Sony a7R V?

A: Yup! I was fairly certain it would fit (since the IV and V share a vertical grip), so I went ahead and ordered it. I was surprised since it actually fits better than the Sony vertical grip does. Feels natural on the camera, and the battery door opens fine.

Q: 3. will cage work for sony a7s?

A: This cage is designed for the A7 II series of cameras, it will not properly fit the older A7S. However Movcam offers an a7S specific cage, B&H # MOMCSTHSA7S, which you will want to purchase instead. https://bhpho.to/2nzWvnF

Q: 4. Does the a7riii and a7iii have the exact same body?

A: Yes

Q: 5. Will this also fit the Alpha 1?

A: The SmallRig Bottom Mount Plate for Sony a7R V & a7 IV (Version 2) does fit onto the Sony a1 Mirrorless Camera.

Q: 6. Would this fit the a7ii?

A: This cage is designed in mind to Sony bodies with a different form factor than the Sony a7ii and is not compatible.

Q: 7. Can you remove the bottom shoe mount?

A: No, it's by far the worst design choice on the cage. Otherwise it's a great cage.

Q: 8. Will this cage also work with the original A7s?

A: No the cage is design for the bigger e mount mirror less body such as the a7rii and a7sii. I think movcam has a cage for the original a7s.

Q: 9. Does anyone else have a problem with this cage and the Mode dial? There is room over the C1,C2 buttons and the Exposure Comp dial, but the cage sits tightly against the Mode dial. It is difficult to turn the dial, which rubs against the cage.

A: Yes it is a tight fit, at the beginning I even scrapped the dial trying to turn it.For some reason after 3 month of being installed, its still a tight fit but does not scrape any more.Probably have about 1 or 2 mm of gap.

Q: 10. With this cage on the camera, can I still mount the camera with a metabones adapter onto a tripod? Meabones has a thread on the bottom that I attach the plate to and I want to know if the cage gets in the way of the plate.

A: While there should be no problem assembling the camera, cage and lens adapter, it is suggested the a more solid set up is by using the following piece, the Movcam Riser Block for Sony A7S Camera Cage B&H # MOCSSA7S. This supports the Metabones and keeps the camera from moving in the cage.

Super light, many other accesories to make it even better. I'm using it with a Sony A7RIII and an Atomos ninja Flame. Just ordered the hand grip to have better support. Rather than other brands that get to rust all over and sweat your hands, 8sinn products are made of pure aluminum, hyper ergonomic and amazing design. Im not paid by 8sinn or B&H, but as a producer-filmmaker i must recomment to fellow
colleagues brands that worth every buck!....This one is a must buy!

Not much to say about this other than it works as advertised. I have access to all the external compartments on the camera (A7s2) with this thing on and its solid construction. If youre wanting to attach a bunch of stuff to your camera, this is a good solution.

It adds a nice bit of extra length to the grip for those with large hands, and the integrated Arca plate is handy as well.

Fits Sony A7rii like a glove. Tons of mounting holes and easy access to camera ports.

I don't use this for mounting my camera to anything (which I think is what it is made for?). I just wanted to be able to fit my pinky finger on the camera when I was shooting. It is really well made, rock solid on the camera, totally flush to the body and doesn't block the battery door.

Sony's battery grip has a very visible gap between it and the A7IV. It's also too big, adds too much weight to the camera and is too expensive. Battery life isn't an issue for me with stills. I did an eight hour commercial shoot yesterday, took about 1200 pictures and changed my battery once.

So if you just need a bit more grip and don't need the vertical handle, controls, battery life, etc. this is a perfect solution.

Absolutely a must have addition to any Sony camera. The quality and craftsmanship is amazing. I’m so impressed with the design and ideas smallrig came up with to make this cage. Not only keeps my camera safe it gave me the opportunity to add on some new equipment. Absolutely the best with smallrig !!!!
