The 95mm (Coarse Thread) 6pt/4mm Star Filter from Tiffen creates multiple points of light, or "stars," streaking outward from a central light source.  This filter comes in a rotating mount for critical placement of the star effect.

Wedding photographers will especially appreciate the value of this filter. When it comes to special effects shots, why not offer your client a table shot of the menu or invitation next to a glowing, star-filled candle? Shooting at night? Make that street lamp take on a different, more dramatic appearance by using the star filter. Any point light source will achieve the effect.

Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings.

The effect is produced by a series of thin lines etched into the flat optical surface of a clear filter

The size and brightness of the star lines produced are first a function of the size, shape, and brightness of the light source: You have additional control through the choice of a particular spacing between the lines on the filter

These spacings are measured in millimeters and range from 1mm to 4mm: A 1mm spacing has twice as many lines as a 2mm spacing and will produce a brighter star for any given source

Lines in one direction produce a two-pointed star, just a streak through the center of the light

Tiffen offers 4, 6, and 8 point symmetrical star effects as well as additional asymmetrical star patterns through their exclusive Hollywood FX Series (North, Hyper, Vector and Hollywood star effects)

Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two optical glass sheets. In this way, Tiffen can better control the various densities of their filters and thereby create more exact degrees of filtration. This process makes for greater accuracy of color as opposed to glass that is simply dyed and become subject to deviation during the dye process

Tiffen, a leader in the filter industry, proudly makes its filters in the USA and backs up its products with a solid 10-year warranty

Q: 1. I have a Nikkor 18-200 lens with a 72 mm thread. Can this 77mm VND Filter be used with a step-up ring (72-77) on my Nikkor and Nikon D7000 DSLR?

A: Yes, that will work well.

Q: 2. Which size filter would fit the Pentax 67 105 f 2.4 lens?

A: According to my research, your lens uses 67mm filters such as this: https://bhpho.to/3IRyv6b Please check your lens cap. Often there is a number on the inside which indicates the filter size.

Q: 3. I have an older B+W 49mm UV filter on my old x100s. Do we think this filter will also weather seal the new x100v or does the fuji protector filter have something special about it?

A: It will work similarly to the Fuji filter.

Q: 4. Tamron 16-300?

A: Yes the Tiffen 67mm Variable Neutral Density Filter can be used on any lens that has 67mm front threads such as the Tamron 16-300mm.

Q: 5. what is the difference between this filter & B+W 67mm XS-Pro UV Haze MRC-Nano 010M Filter?

A: The filters are largely similar, including their coatings, the difference being the unique titanium-color brass ring.

Q: 6. Is this better than the B+W XS-Pro UV Haze MRC-Nano 010M Filter for the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm lens?

A: For the Nikon NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm you would need a 46mm filter. The B+W 46mm T-Pro and XS-Pro are optically the same. The only difference is the Titanium-Colored Brass Filter Ring on the T-Pro.

Q: 7. I just bought this filter, works great! But I am not able to use my 82mm Sensei lens cap for the ND. The ND it self seems to have a larger front diameter. What lens cap do you recommend? Thanks, -GG

A: Check out the Sensei 95mm lens cap, as the Tiffen 82mm Variable Neutral Density Filter has a front thread size of 95mm: http://bhpho.to/K9qRG6

Q: 8. I can see a bit of threading on the front of the 62mm and 67mm Tiffen VNDs. Can you tell me what the diameter is of each of those? I realize it is not much, but it is there, and I would like to try and use it.

A: Unfortunately the Tiffen VND filters do not have front threads. The front of the filter is larger than the rear threads in order to reduce the risk of vignetting.

Q: 9. Is this is 007 clear version or the 010 haze version?

A: This B+W 77mm T-PRO UV Filter is the 010 haze version.

Q: 10. What is the actual color of this filter? Is it silver or a darker gray? Does anyone have a photo next to a silver lens?

A: The B+W 46mm T-PRO UV Filter is silver. You could make an appointment with our Tech Corner for a video chat to see the filter. This webpage has more details and the link to make an appointment: https://bhpho.to/3Md1OBP

This is a must filter to have when shooting moving water features. It lets you slow the shutter down to get those cotton water shots.

This filter is very easy to use and for me has Mage long exposure photography a lot easier I also have the Tiffen 10 stop ND but after using this filter I think the 10 stop may have even more limited use. Perhaps it was just the shooting circumstances but I never had to switch to manual shooting mode and calculate shooting times with this filter. And I was very pleased with results. I varied my aperture settings many times and all were easy enough to shoot with. Once focused I did switch from auto focus to manual focus and I was good to go. I would definitely recommend this filter.

This is my first ND filter. Coming new to this, I could not reach a decision on which density to get, and I could not even tell which one I really needed. It came down to an all encompassing it depends. Since I didn't see myself buying and carrying a full set of different filters, his all-in-one kit by Tiffen was the ideal choice. I struggled at the beginning in using it since the documentation was not clear enough. For the filer to work properly, the different markings on the filter need to be aligned with the dot on the filter itself and not with the dot on the lenses - which I did at the beginning!! In my testing, the MIN settings was giving me 1.5 stops, and the MAX setting 7.5 stops - very close to the advertised 2-8 stops. The pictures I took (mostly water bodies, waterfalls, and similar) came out with no discoloration of any sort, and the filter worked as expected. Only (minimal) gripe I have is that when the filter is attached, the reference dot comes at about 5 o'clock. To rotate the filter, you would have then to bend under the lens to see the markings. Minor annoyance.

Have you ever been outside shooting at a low f-stop, low ISO, and slow shutter speed? I do that quite often, but sadly the picture comes out white. HOWEVER, this product saves the quality of the image quality. It's generally smart to keep the brightness of the image 1 stop down and the variable feature of this filter does just that. It's much more effective than prime filters, for lack of a better term. If you want to film movies during the day and get awesome shallow depth of field shots, this is the product for you!
