The Battery Grip from Vello is made exclusively for the Fujifilm X-T1 mirrorless digital camera. It holds one NP-W126 lithium-ion battery, effectively doubling your shooting time, and provides a comfortable grip when shooting in portrait orientation.

The grip has an alternate shutter release button to facilitate shooting when held vertically with a lock to prevent accidental release. In addition, the grip has extra AE-L, AF-L, and FA buttons, as well as front and rear command dials. It is designed with an anti-slip rubber grip and firm curvature to further improve handling. A tripod socket is included as is a holder for the camera's contact cover.

Q: 1. Do we have a final answer if this is compatible with A7 R II?

A: The short answer to that question is yes. I bought this and installed it in my Sony A7R II and it worked as advertised. Until my camera went haywire one day. I wrote extensively about what happened on my website but I'm not allowed to post a link to it in this response. At this point I can only conclude that the battery grip was responsible for a sudden drainage of all battery power. My camera did not work until I performed a certain sequence of card and battery removal etc. My camera is now working fine, and I have yet to test it once again with the grip installed, although I do plan to.Perhaps someone from B&H Could contact me directly on this. Sony is aware of what happened, as is the local store in which I purchased the camera body itself. If you go to kyleandrew dot com and scroll down, I posted the article on my site this week. I'm not in any way suggesting that the grip was certainly the cause of this issue, but based on correspondence with others online and my own testing, I can't help but highly suspect it.

Q: 2. What happens if the one of the batteries dies whilst recording video? Does it switch batteries and continue recording seamlessly?

A: I have not used this grip for video, but for stills shooting--yes, the second battery takes over when the first battery is exhausted.

Q: 3. Does this grip have a spot to store the battery compartment cover? Thanks

A: Yes, the battery door is stored on the inside of the vertical portion that inserts into the battery compartment of the camera. There is a special compartment on the battery grip vertical piece that allows you store the cover.

Q: 4. Recommendation for something similar compatible with the Sony A6500?

A: Vello makes the same type of item for the Sony a6500 camera: Vello BG-S5 Battery Grip for Sony Alpha a6500 (B&H # VEBGS5)

Q: 5. Has anyone used this with third party batteries?

A: I have the two Sony batteries that come with the A7R II and 6 third party batteries. Haven't noticed any difference using Sony or third party batteries with or without the battery grip! One of the features I like with the battery grip is it tells you which battery is being used and remaining power left on each battery.

Q: 6. Sounds like there is a potential issue with the A7Rii. Has anyone experienced bugs with the A7sii? Such as the grip causing the camera to change settings on it's own? I had a Neewer grip for the a7s and there was a bug that kept making the custom button 2 engage randomly...Try to stay away from that!

A: No bugs with my A7sII so far. Much better quality than Neewer as well. Get it!

Q: 7. What's the best vertical grip for the a6500?

A: The gryp is great on my a7sii. I dont know if it fits the 6500.

Q: 8. will this work on a9 and 7III?

A: I think the A9 uses a bigger battery.

Q: 9. Does it work with the alpha a7?

A: i use it with the A7ii

Q: 10. Can batteries be individually swapped out without powering-down the camera?

A: In order to change 1 or 2 batteries in this grip, the battery tray needs to be removed. Therefore, power will be lost during the change.

Fits my a7ii perfectly holding 2 batteries for extended life. the grip is a fraction of the cost for the original Sony model. Its plastic and not quite as robust as the original, but for 1/4 of the price it cant be beat. Seems to have all the features of the original including a built in holder for the camera body battery door 5

I am a professional wedding videographer and I just upgraded to the Sony A7S II. The camera body is nice and solid but for my big hands it was nearly impossible to hold easily because only about 3 of my fingers fit on the small hand grip. This grip not only adds that extra hand space to hold the camera up without hand fatigue, but it also allows you to use two batteries which is hugely important as this camera burns through batteries pretty quickly when used for video. 5

This Battery Grip has proven itself useful already. I was out on a shoot and my battery ran out right in the middle of the shoot and of course with the Grip I could continue shooting without loosing a second by not stoping and changing batteries. The Grip fits great on my Sony A7rII. 5

My previous review mentioned flicker when using it for video. The review was read by the company and they told me there was a manufacturing issue on one batch for a short period of time. I'm happy to report they sent me another one which works fine when I shoot video without flicker and I appreciate very much the company reaching out to me to deal with the issue I was having. This costs on $ and is well worth the money...it extends my video time lapse times as well of course my normal shooting. 5

I've given this grip five stars because it does exactly what I need it to - I can shoot with two batteries instead of one, and it gives me a little something extra to hold onto my A7sii. I've done pretty extensive shooting with it since purchasing it a few months ago, and I've found it to perform reliably. I was hesitant to go with an off-brand product at first, but the price difference was enough to make me take a risk. This grip certainly is not perfect. The buttons are very inconveniently located. I mainly shoot video, and I'm constantly changing my grip and hitting the Vello's shutter button by accident. However, there's an on-off switch on the Vello that disables its button functionality, so this problem doesn't really affect me. For people who will use the grip in the same way I do, it's a much better value than the Sony version. 5

Because the Sony Battery Grip is so $$$$, I suppose I assumed one at this price couldnt be any good. I was wrong! I did fear that raising the center of balance on the camera might make it impossible to balance on the Zhyiun Crane 2 gimbal, but that, too, was wrong. It balances just fine. 100% satisfied. 5
