Protect your Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4E FL ED VR lens against scrapes and light impact with the LensCoat TravelCoat in Realtree Max 4 HD camo. Made in the USA from 3mm closed-cell neoprene, it offers shock absorption and is designed to safeguard your lens when not in use--especially during trips when it's stowed in a bag or pack. The cover is custom-made to fit the lens, in order to take up as little space as possible and maximize your room for packing and storage. This model is meant to be used with the hood on the lens in the reversed position.
The TravelCoat slides over the lens quickly and easily, and is secured via touch-fastener closure. It should be used with the appropriate optional LensCoat Hoodie Lens Cap for total protection. Additionally, it works well with LensCoat Lens Covers, which slip directly over the lens and are designed for use when shooting outdoors.

Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Would this lens work with my Nikon D7100 camera and would the AF work at all f stops?
A: This lens will work fine with the Nikon D7100. Concern about f/stops comes into play only if the maximum aperture is too small for whatever camera is being used to focus with. This is a concern with tele-extenders and cameras less than the top level. Since you are not using any tele-extender, and the focus aperture is f/4 and the lens will stop down to whatever aperture you select for the shot, there will be no issue regarding AF or f/stops.
Q: 2. can this lens be used with an FTZ adapter on a Z7II?
A: Yes, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens can be used with the Nikon FTZ adapter to mount with the Nikon Z7 II.
Q: 3. Are there any actual pictures using the new 500mm f/4E lens?
A: nikonrumors published a recent shooters field report with some sample images.
Q: 4. Is a plain glass protection filter available for this lens? I usually put them on my lenses just to keep the front glass clean.
A: No. There are no threads to accept a filter, and even if there were the weight of that much glass would throw off the very good balance of the lens. The front element of the lens is, essentially, plain glass and designed to protect the optical elements and be replaced at reasonable cost if it is damage. It has a coating that repels dust and fingerprints very well. In other words, this lens has a plain glass protection filter built in.
Q: 5. I have a 1.4 tele extender so will this cover fit over it and the 100-500 lens?
A: It is for the lens only. They do not make one for the lens plus a teleconverter
Q: 6. The CT 505 Hard Case is pictured with the lens. Is it included?
A: Yes, the 500 mm Nikon lens I bought from B & H Photo arrived inside a CT 505 case.
Q: 7. Will this lens work with a D5500?
A: Yes
Q: 8. Will this fit Nikkor 500mm f/4.0P IF ED?
A: Unfortunately, we are not sure. The Nikon 500mm f/4.0P ED-IF lens is a much older lens that was released back in March 1988, and has been discontinued for multiple decades; unfortunately, we do not have compatibility information with that lens model. Nikon only indicates that the Nikon Slip-On Front Lens Cap for AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens, B&H # NILC5004, is compatible and designed for use with the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4E FL ED VR lens, and they do not list the dimensions for the slip-on lens cover.
Q: 9. Hi!how much vignetting can you consider as normal on this tele?. On my Newly purcased(in Sweden) it’s a major component on pictures with full opened aparture!
A: This lens would not be subject to vignetting.
Q: 10. Anyone use the 600 for sports? I currently use a 300mm f/2.8 on a D850 and find it too short for soccer/rugby fields. great for baseball and basketball. Not sure if I need to go to 400-500-600mm.
A: Given the much greater 600mm telephoto reach, if your current longest lens is a 300mm then this would be a worthy addition. To get an idea of what that would be like, at 600mm you're seeing 25 percent of the frame you see when you're at 300mm. That's four times as "close." Having said that, especially since you're shooting with such a high resolution camera, you'll want to use a tripod or monopod so that camera shake doesn't rob you of any of the detail that your sensor can capture.
