This filter has a grade of 5. Grades of 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 3, and 4 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase.

A: This filter uses optical quality glass, is uncoated and uses an aluminum filter ring. The Digital HT version uses Water White (highest quality) glass, is multi-coated and uses a titanium coated ring. The mulit-coating makes the glass more scratch resistant, easier to clean and less chance of reflections. The HT filters meet or exceed military specifications as well. The difference in image color/quality will be tough to see when comparing the two, the difference is more in construction quality.

A: Justin... the dots on the filter ring are just reference points and do not relate to actual stop values. At the MIN setting you are at 2 stops, at the MAX setting you are at 8 stops.
