I've been a user of entry level strobes for years, and could never talk myself into pulling the trigger on much more expensive options. The Profoto B1s were in my shopping cart a couple of months ago and backed out again. When the B1X lights were introduced, I jumped on them.... and I'm really happy that I did. Some of the benefits of Profoto that I've been missing: * TTL, high speed sync, and freeze options * Control lighting output from the camera * Precise 1/10 f-stop control (versus an imprecise slider) * Consistent output * Built in power source -- completely portable * Quality construction I've just begun to scratch the surface with respect to light modifiers, but what I have so far (beauty dish, a couple of soft boxes, reflectors, etc.) are great quality compared to what I've used in the past. Yes, it's spendy, and it took me a while to make the commitment. But I have no regrets. I enjoy shooting on location, so the portability of the battery operated units is fantastic. I was concerned whether the 500Ws power would be sufficient, and so far it is more than adequate. Battery life has been impressive. None of my foreseeable plans would require back-up batteries. I am a photography enthusiast who does some commercial work but does not make a living at it. Most of my photography is for pleasure.

The only thing better than a B-1X 500 is two of them, along with a well-designed backpack to transport them. The lights are powerful, flexible and, with the optional Profoto transmitter, TTL compatible. They also have a Freeze mode for ultra-short flash duration, for the purpose of stopping fast motion. Also HSS and 2nd-curtain sync compatible. The kit also includes a battery charger and car charger.
The backpack is large enough to also store a Profoto gel/grid kit, a Profoto transmitter, the collapsible snoot and two additional batteries. Additionally, it has two external pocked that are sized and shaped to hold collapsible umbrellas or small light stands. With this package, it's easy to put together a completely self-contained and portable OCF lighting kit.

Of course there's no other strobe syst!

this elegant camera marker is perfectly balanced, packed tightly with quality sand (i assume), and perfectly suited for marking even the most difficult camera positions — beginning of dolly track, end of dolly track, and an infinite possibility of positions in between. its low profile when prone ensures it can be used inside dolly track as well, with plenty of clearance for every dolly i can think of. the expertly crafted grommet protects the nylon circular perforation from fraying despite continued use. the grommet’s distance from the top, left, and right edges of the marker allow for efficient and convenient portability using a carabiner, twine loop, or broken coat hanger. grommet can also be used to helicopter the marker on a pencil (please observe proper safety protocols; pencil not included). the hue can be described as a true blue and is accurately depicted in the photographs. goes well with a blue t-bag actor marker, sausage markers of alternate colors, and a frosty milk stout (after hours). this slender marker will be the perfect addition to your camera assistant’s AKS kit or gear belt.

We do a lot of beach photography of families down on Sanibel and Captiva islands. This light is strong enough to deal with the bright sun as well as working exceptionally well with images shot closer to dusk. Having fun with many different modifiers too! Had to retire my other strobes once I used this one!

Love it. Battery life is great. Packaging is everything i have come to expect from a top tier brand like Profoto.
