A wide and fast Canon EF-mount prime, the 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Lens is a member of the highly regarded Art line of Sigma's Global Vision Series and is characterized by its advanced optical construction and robust physical design. The combination of three "F" Low Dispersion (FLD) elements and four Special Low Dispersion elements help to achieve a marked reduction in chromatic aberrations, while a pair of aspherical elements, with one positioned in the rear of the lens, minimize a variety of additional distortions and aberrations. The 15-element-in-11-group optical design is poised to deliver consistent peripheral brightness and sharpness, even when working at the bright f/1.4 maximum aperture. A Super Multi Coating has been applied to lens elements, too, to reduce flare and ghosting for higher contrast and color fidelity.

Complementing the optical performance is an equally adept Hyper Sonic Motor, which provides fast, smooth, and near-silent autofocus performance. This focusing motor also enables full-time manual focus override at any time just by rotating the focus ring for refined manual control. Nine rounded diaphragm blades contribute to pleasing out-of-focus quality when working with shallow depth of field techniques, and the lens is also compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuned control over focusing parameters and other lens characteristics.

As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens' is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.

The prime 24mm focal length offers a versatile wide-angle perspective when used on full-frame sensors, making it ideal for landscape, nature, interior, and architectural photography. When used with a APS-C-format sensor, the lens offers a 38.4mm equivalent focal length.

Fast f/1.4 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.

This lens has been designed using an advanced optical structure to achieve both high resolution and sharpness, along with consistent edge-to-edge illumination. A pair of aspherical elements, with one in the rear of the optical design, correct for sagittal coma flare, distortion, and axial chromatic aberration, while also enabling full use of the fast f/1.4 maximum aperture with maintained peripheral brightness and sharpness.

Three FLD and four SLD glass elements have been incorporated within the lens design to correct for chromatic aberrations throughout the entire focusing range and help to ensure high image sharpness, clarity, and contrast regardless of focus point or aperture setting.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

The integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) realizes quick and quiet autofocusing, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.

A rounded nine-blade diaphragm helps to produce an attractive out-of-focus quality.

The lens is constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material, along with traditional metals, for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. The outside of the lens barrel is also engraved with the year of production.

The bayonet mount is constructed from brass for ensured accuracy and durability.

The included lens hood is fitted with a rubber connection for a secure fit.

This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. the focus ring is infinite or has a stop?

A: It has a hard stop.

Q: 2. Will this lens work with a Zhiyun Crane Plus? Currently, my Sigma 18-35 is too heavy for the gimble. I was looking to replace it with the 24mm.

A: It will be front heavy , you might wont to get a Zhiyun Crane 2 ore Zhiyun Crane 3s

Q: 3. Do I need to have a adapter to use this on the gh5 or can I just put it in the gh5

A: This lens is designed for the Canon EF mount so this would not work with the GH5. If you wanted this lens to work on the GH5 you would need an EF lens to MFT mount adapter.

Q: 4. Will the Canon EF mount allow full automatic operation with a Metabones adapter on a Sony a7ii?

A: The short answer is no, but a little explanation will help. Autofocus and automatic exposure do work accurately with the A7ii using a Canon EF mount and Metabones adapter. But they work slower with the Sigma than with native Sony lenses. And you lose many neat features of the A7ii (like face recognition, eye focus, and too many others to mention here). This is true of all non-Sony lenses. Some blogs feel that future firmware update to the Metabones adapter will correct this problem. A much better option is to get the E mount model of the Sigma lens which has already been announced I believe. This will mean the Metabones adapter is not even required saving money and weight. I have been disappointed at the loss of capability with non-Sony lenses on the A7ii that I am selling (almost) all my non-Sony lenses. Sony is adding many new lenses all the time.

Q: 5. Will this lens work with S1 lumix?am thinking to get this thanks in advance

A: Hi--this lens is compatible with the Lumix S1 camera.

Q: 6. two q's: As an EF lens I presume this lens would be ok on a bmpcc4k with metabones adapter? But since I shoot in tight spaces, I'd really like to know how this changes the lenses. To say 38 to 48 mm. Wonder if anybody knows where you can see visual samples of the image changes?

A: Yes this lens will work on the Pocket cinema 4K with an MFT to EF adapter. The field of view that you will get will vary depending on the adapter that you choose. There is the standard version a .71x speed booster and a x64 speed booster. If you are uncertain about whether or not you will have enough space to get the shot that you need perhaps it is better to consider the Sigma 18-35mm. this will give you more flexibility as it is both wider and tighter than the lens you are currently looking at. You can also download a director's viewfinder app for your cellphone. often times they have profiles for cameras like the Pocket 4K and will allow you to preview various focal lengths through your phone's camera.

Q: 7. will there going to be a problem or issues if i use this on sony a6600?

A: No, it should function fine on the Sony A6600.

Q: 8. I know that the sigma art lens line for canon/nikon is not weather sealed. What these ones?

A: No, the Sigma Art line for Sony is also not weather sealed.

Q: 9. Will this cover a c500 mk II?

A: Yes. The following lens will mount to a c500 canon body.

Q: 10. Does the auto focus work well with A7SIII

A: Yes, the autofocus works very well on the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens for Sony E when paired with the Sony A7S III.

Beautiful lens. Sharp as a tack and not too big or heavy. I'm going to use it as my primary lens on a Nikon D850 and between the two of them I can crop and/or zoom on any picture to get the same results as a super-heavy telephoto lens.

Awesome lens, for sure, takes great pictures.

OK, it's not cinema glass. I primarily use this with all of our A7Siii's. For the price it delivers 90% of what I need it to do. Sure, you can pixel peep things to death, but ultimately it's all in how you use and maximize the tools you have.

Really happy with the production of this lens.
Shooting with it on my a7Rii and have no complaints. Sure, its big and heavy, but the pros greatly outnumber those cons.
Only real problem with it is that I wish the paint on the added extension for the E-Mounts was the same matte style as the rest of the lens!

Was struggling on deciding which lens to purchase. Between a 20mm, 24-35mm and a 24mm for my landscape photography. After talking with B&H they helped me make the best choice lens to purchase for the type of photography I wanted to shoot. I could never be more happier with my choice. I have always gotten great advice and great products from B&H. I will continue to purchase products from B&H cause they never try to up sell you they only sell you what you need.

I mostly shoot video, interviews and talking heads, and had been reluctant to use this lens because of the potential of wide angle lenses to distort faces. But this lens is so beautiful I just don't worry about it anymore. I still use my 55mm and 85 mm more for portrait type videos in larger spaces, but in a small space where you want the background pushed back and you just don't have a lot of room, this lens is terrific.
