The 5 x 6" Tiffen Combination 85/ND Filter blends both an amber color conversion 85 and a 1.2 neutral density filter. The ND filtration provides a 4-stop exposure reduction for darkening the entire image in order to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The 85 filtration covers the entire filter plane and converts the color temperature to 3400K for use with type A (tungsten) films.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass, and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 5 x 6" / 127 x 152.4mm.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Any problem with vignetting with the 77mm diameter at wide angle like 16mm? I am thinking of using it for canon 16-35mm f4

A: You shouldnt see any vignettes from the filter at 16mm.

Q: 2. Will this filter be SLIM ENOUGH to slot into a Canon 300/2.8 and 400/2.8 lens? I have the drop-in filter holder that accommodates 52mm screw-in filters, but they need to be SLIM enough to fit into the drop-in slot on top of the 300 and 400 mm lenses. Will it work?

A: There is no published list of compatible filters for that filter holder--the only filters guaranteed to fit are those provided by Canon. Because the Formatt Hitech 52mm Firecrest ND 1.5 Filter (5-Stop) has a "super-slim" design, it may work.

Q: 3. Does this filter fit Cokin P holder?

A: Unfortunately no. The Formatt Hitech 85 x 85mm Firecrest ND 0.9 Filter B&H # FOFCND.9CP MFR # FC85ND0.9, does not fit the Cokin P Holder.

Q: 4. Does this filter fit the Benro master series?

A: I'm sorry, no. The Benro Holder takes 100mm wide filters. You would have to go with the Formatt 85mm filter holder or get the Formatt 13 stop filter, which comes in 100mm.

Q: 5. What is the front filter thread size? For the purpose of buying a lens cap.

A: The K&F Concept Nano-X Pro Series CPL+ND2-32 Filter (67mm, 1 to 5-Stop) accepts 77mm lens caps.

Q: 6. Safe for solar eclipse photography?

A: This filter would not be safe for shooting a solar eclipse. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest 100mm Holder Kit with 5.4 (18 Stop) Eclipse Filter B&H # FOFCHKE54100 is a suitable filter.

Q: 7. Does this come with pouch or case?

A: Its packaged in a case but the case itself i found too big to stuff in your bag.

Q: 8. Will this work with Smallrig mini matte box lite 4x4 adapter tray? What thickness is this filter?

A: Using this filter with the Smallrig Mini Matte box is not recommended. The Mattebox works with the following filter size - Multiple 4 x 5.65" filters can be added to the front of the matte box with filter trays (one is included)

Q: 9. What is the difference between this lens filter & the Formatt Hitech Ultra version? [Formatt Hitech 77mm Firecrest Ultra ND 0.9 Filter (3-Stop)] Thanks.

A: The Ultra Firecrest series filters exhibit greater clarity and have lower reflectivity than the original Firecrest filters. Borrowing from the range of Firecrest cine filters, the Ultra series filters undergo a secondary lapping and polishing process after the initial polishing and bonding stage. This additional step helps to ensure flatness and consistency for improved image quality.

Q: 10. For taking direct pictures of the sun does the sun come out black and white (b+w) only?

A: No. It is color. It will shade the lens for longer exposure. Love mine!
