A Tiffen FL-D filter is used when you wish to correct for the greenish tone that appears when shooting daylight film under general purpose fluorescent lighting.

This filter is glass and measures 125 x 150 mm (5x6") x 4 mm thick.

NOTE: The FL series of filters alone does not always guarantee 100% correct color balance when shooting under fluorescent lighting. They are general purpose filters intended for moderate correction and will not, by themselves, necessarily provide perfect color rendition.

An FL-W filter is used to balance daylight film under warm white or white type fluorescent lamps. An FL-B filter is used to correct the color balance when shooting tungsten film under fluorescent lighting.

Fluorescent lamps burn at many different temperatures and often require more demanding filtration for exact results. For specific filtration and professional use, it is strongly recommended that a color temperature meter be employed along with Color Correction filters (i.e.CC30M) when shooting under fluorescent lighting. This is the only proven way to achieve exact color correction.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this a standard 15W bulb that can be used for other light boxes? I'm looking for replacement 18 daylight balanced fluorescent bulbs for an older Light Impressions Spectrum 5000 light box.

A: This lamp could be used in other light boxes as long as it uses the same type of lamp base.

Q: 2. Does this work for daylight and reversal films like Kodak Portra 160 / 400 and Provia 100F?

A: Yes this can work when shooting daylight balanced color negative or positive films.

Q: 3. Will this fit in the ikan Tilta DSLR Shoulder Kit?

A: Im not sure what that kit is. These filters fit any 4x4 matte box.

Q: 4. Will this lamp work in a fixture with a magnetic ballast and a hold to start switch?

A: The MyStudio 18" 5000K 15W "Daylight" Fluorescent Bulb for MyStudio Kits is for MyStudio system 20 and system 32 fixtures.

Q: 5. Can this filter be used to filter out sodium yellow flare off when using a glass blowing torch?

A: The filter will not decrease flair. And with flair from a blow torch it is not the color as much as it is just too bright.

Q: 6. My Cokin P Series Holder accepts the Cokin P164 Circular Glass Filter, and I the 77m adapter ring fits as well. However, the filter does not turn easily and the adapter ring allows the holder to spin easily. What has anyone done to make these parts work as they should?

A: If the filter is truly hard to turn and you are still in 30 days from B&H, you should contact B&H Customer Service to see if you can exchange it. As far as dealing with the holder spinning, I would suggest trying spinning of the filter in the opposite direction, the direction use to tighten the 77mm adapter.

Q: 7. Is this really single perforated? I didn’t know they have a single perforated version of this film in 35mm.

A: The ORWO UN54 35mm Cine B&W Film (100' Daylight Spool) is 3-perf film Stock.

Q: 8. How many in a case?

A: Unfortunately, these are only sold singly and not in a case.

Q: 9. There's a lot of confusion about the "single perforated" note, and that's my question too. Is this perforated one edge or both?

A: The ORWO UN54 35mm Cine B&W Film (100' Daylight Spool) is triple perforated film.

Q: 10. Does this have the feet? The pictures appear to show two different products. Will this work on any Lightbox?

A: According to the manufacturer, the Negative Supply 4 x 5 Film Holder with Acrylic Glass does not have feet. You should be able to use it on a flat light such as the Kaiser light. They state if you are using their products, they recommend the Negative Supply 4 x 5 Scanning Kit with Pro Mount MK2 and Two Sheets ANR Glass, B&H # NE45SKIT2ANR, as the 4x5 holder is attached directly to this product and will provide stability (as well as one of their light sources).
