The Aston Spirit is a multi-pattern condenser microphone utilizing a 1" gold-evaporated capsule. A switch on the mic body selects between omni, cardioid, or figure-8 polar patterns. It is versatile enough to use with most instruments, and excels on acoustic guitar and vocals. Its hand-selected capsule is teamed with high-end transformer-balanced circuitry using only the best components.

The Spirit is designed to deliver an open sound with sparkling harmonics. This accurate microphone provides natural and transparent recording, capturing detail in the high range, but without adding the harshness that some condenser microphones tend to.

The mic has a mesh-knit pop filter built into the wave-form head. The weave allows sound to pass while reducing unwanted plosives. This single-piece mesh cage is formed in stainless steel, so it won't rust with use and can even be removed and washed.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The "Key Features" at the top say Max SPL = 140db, but the Specs say it is 130db. Which is correct?

A: The published specification is correct for the Senal SCM-660 Large-Diaphragm Multi-Pattern Condenser Microphone (BH # SESCM660). It is 130 dB, but will be 140 dB with the -10 dB pad engaged. See the page 10 of the user guide here: https://bhpho.to/3WFcOhz.

Q: 2. How long is the included USB cable?

A: The included cable is about 3-6 feet long.

Q: 3. Can I use this with Dragon Dictate?

A: Yes. This will work with Dragon Dictate.

Q: 4. model number?

A: The Blue Yeti Nano Multi-Pattern USB Condenser Microphone(Blackout) has a manufacturer number of 988-000400.

Q: 5. Can I use this microphone with my Iphone 10 with the lightining to usb converter for zoom calls ?

A: No. According to Apple, external microphones will not work with iPhones for video calls or conferencing apps like Zoom or FaceTime and only the built-in mic will work for those types of apps. External mics can be used with the iPhone for recording audio with video and for regular audio calls. Additionally, the UC4-B was designed for use with a computer and it will work for Zoom video calls with a computer. The mic would probably work for recording audio on the iPhone with the Lightning to USB adapter, though it would drain the phone's battery very quickly because it draws power via USB and more power than the iPhone can supply. iPhones were not designed for use with this type of mic.

Q: 6. Would this mic work in a large group of 15 people arranged in a circle with this mic in the center of the circle? Or do the players have to be within a foot of the mic?

A: While this mic has an omni-directional pickup pattern option and could pick up sound 360 degrees around it, however distant those people are from the mic is how it would sound. As well, you would certainly pick up a large amount of room noise. Typically, for a quality recording you would want the source of the audio to be no more than 12'' from the mic itself.

Q: 7. Does this microphone connect to the computer with a 3.5mm jack in addition to the USB cable?

A: No. Only USB.

Q: 8. What software do I need to capture the sound files?

A: You can use that microphone with any standard Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Here's an option for Presonus Studio One 4 Artist: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1405910-REG/presonus_s14_art_studio_one_4_artist.html.

Q: 9. will this work with an iPad or iPhone?

A: This mic is designed to work with a computer only. The Shure MOTIV MV51 Digital Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone (Silver) ,B&H # SHMV51A is a good example of a model that can work with a computer or an iOS device.

Q: 10. Will I still be able to use my external Audio Engine speakers when I'm on a web conference? In other words, will the Nano eliminate any sound feedback?

A: The Nano was not designed with DSP meant to cancel out noise. While you could connect the headphone output of the mic to your Audio Engine speakers, feedback could be a potential issue. We would recommend using headphones if you are using the Yeti, or perhaps look at a conferencing style speakerphone for noise cancellation such as BH #YAYVC200B.

So this microphone does a fantastic job of keeping audio clear and easy to hear. It's one pitfall is that it's really good at what it does, which means sometimes someone rubbing their hands together can sound like sandpaper if it's too close to the microphone. You just have to be really aware of what sound sources it's picking up so it doesn't pick up too much ambient noise.
