Plug your high-impedance gear into low-impedance equipment with the dbx DI1 Active Direct Box. Using a 9V battery or phantom power from your mixing board or interface, the DI1 takes the high-impedance signal which comes from instruments and other unbalanced TS or XLR sources and transforms it into a low-impedance balanced XLR signal. Low-impedance balanced signals can drive long cables without picking up interference or losing high-end articulation.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what cables do I need to operate a direct box?

A: You will need an XLR microphone cable to connect to your mixing board and an instrument cable with 1/4 inch connectors to connect your instrument.

Q: 2. If I have a "stereo" line level source will this give me 2 mono XLR outs, or do I have to use both L/R outs ?

A: If you have a stereo line level source with left and right outputs, you are sending two different mono signals to the inputs on the Mackie MDB-2P Stereo Passive Direct Box, so you will need to use both the left and right XLR outputs in order to maintain the stereo image.

Q: 3. What is the range?

A: The Rolls HR187 Stereo Professional Bluetooth Direct Box specifies a maximum operational transmission distance of 20 meters or 60 feet with line of sight to its front panel.

Q: 4. Can this box also be used as a re-amping device? Using the XLR output as an input?

A: This device can not be used as a re-amping device. The XLR connection is only meant for a mic level output send to a mixer or interface.

Q: 5. Is this used for connecting consumer grade line level signal -10dBV gear to pro grade line level signal +4dBu gear?

A: Although the dbx DJdi 2-Channel Passive Direct Box's continuously variable input signal attenuator can accommodate a wide range of signal levels, it is not specifically designed for connecting consumer level products to professional gear. The main function of the DJdi is accepting unbalanced input signals and converting them to balanced output signals, and functions best in standard DI applications such as sending a guitar signal to a mixer.

Q: 6. ground lift switch positions which lifts ground?

A: Yes, the DIB-443 has a built-in ground lift. Best regards, Hosa Support.

Q: 7. does it require phantom power?

A: The Whirlwind DIRECTOR is used to connect line level devices to a mic input on a mixer or preamp. No phantom power is required.

Q: 8. What is the purpose of the battery power?

A: The purpose of the 9v battery is to cater to customers that may not have access to external power or phantom power.

Q: 9. Does it send signal out of both outputs simultaneously (like a splitter)?

A: Yes, it does. When splitting, you will lose a bit of the treble, but it's not a huge difference. I use it in that regime--sending two signals out of it to different gear. Let me know if you want to know more. Good luck.

Q: 10. Can this accept mic level signals on XLR inputs 1&2? I want to use this on my mixer end for two mic signals to line level inputs

A: No. The ART Dual RDB Dual Re-Amping Direct Box accepts line level input only, as it does not include any mic preamps. The Dual RDB outputs mic level or instrument level audio signal. You could use a device like the Rolls MX310 MorMics 3-Channel Mic Mixer/Combiner (B&H # ROMX310), which will allow you to connect up to three XLR microphones and it has a single XLR output that is switchable for mic level or line level output.
