Characterized by its sleek, unobtrusive profile, the Leica Elmarit-M 28mm f/2.8 ASPH. Lens is a compact optic that is particularly well-suited for street photography applications. Beyond its svelte stature, this wide-angle prime also features an eight-element, six-group optical design that contains one aspherical element to minimize spherical aberrations and distortions for clean, sharp image quality throughout the aperture and focusing ranges. Additionally, for intuitive handling and use, the manual focus design lends precise control while shooting, and its short, just over 1" in length, profile barely protrudes into the viewfinder field of M cameras for a clearer, uncluttered perspective while composing images.

I've had this lens for about two years now and I absolutely love it! I mount it on my SL2 for a very cool look and a lightweight rig. 28 mm is a darling of a focal length with almost no wide-angle distortion. With my SL2, cropping later is a very viable option if I was not quite close enough when making the shot. If you think this lens is right for you, buy it soon, it's not getting any cheaper.

I don't usually shoot wider than 35mm, but I wanted to be able to go wider than 35mm should the need arise. This is it. Because it is so good I've used it more than I expected to.

Very high quality and so small compared to Summilux lenses. I love using this lens as my daily walk around lens. With the M10 I get plenty of light at F2.8.

This lens is very sharp and it is small. I tend to leave it on the camera because even if I need a longer lens, I can simply crop to get it if I am making medium sized prints.

I added this based on positive reviews as much as anything. Other reviewers are right! Been using for a few weeks now, and this has become a favorite lens. Takes incredibly sharp images edge-to-edge. Superb for architectural photography. Lightweight, unobtrusive. Nothing negative about this lens. I was waiting for the Portuguese make, which of course came out a week after I sprang for this! No matter -- a bargain at any price.

I've been saving my money to upgrade my Leica M-D with a 28mm Zeiss Biogon. The day has finally come. The Zeiss was great, but this is better. Everything works seamlessly. Focusing is extremely precise. If I had to pick a nit, it would be that it's hard to see the edges of the field of view in the viewfinder because it's so wide. There are worse problems to have.

It's small, light, extremely well built, and works great on the M10R. If you enjoy the 28mm focal length then you can't go wrong with this lens so long as you are ok with F2.8. At F2.8 there is some vignetting on the M10R, but it's easily corrected in Lightroom.

I've always been more of a Summaron-Summilux , 35mm-50mm kind of photographer. I decided I wanted a 28mm, but I definitely did not want to shell out 7300 for a 28mm summilux. I was hesitant about getting just an Elmarit..... until I read the reviews. The reviews were spot on. This lens is built with superb quality and the optics are just phenomenal. The lens is extremely sharp, smaller in size, and in my opinion a bargain among M lenses. This just may be my go to lens from now on.

For years I had considered buying this lens. I have a European trip coming up and thinking maybe a very light weight lens would be useful, I went ahead and bought this lens.
I have not yet had a chance to shoot this lens out in the real world however in taking test shots between f2.8 and f4 (a range I usually shoot at), I have been impressed with the sharpness and color the combination of this lens and my M11 have produced.
I recommend this 28 Elmarit if your on the hunt for something light and seemingly typical Leica M quality.
The accompanying test shot is of my cluttered desk at home.
