Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is it possible to construct a 5' by 8' frame for 60" ND gel roll?

A: The Scrim Jim system is very modular, so you can always get very close to whatever size you are trying to create. There are post sizes of 10", 22", 34", and 46". There are also 1" and 2" connectors. Therefore, the closest you could get to 5'x8' would be two 46" posts and a 2" connector to achieve the 8' side. You would use a 46" post and 10" post with a 2" connector to acheive the 5' side. You would also get 4 corner connectors which add 1" on every side. For further help, call the Westcott customer service team at 800-886-1689.

Q: 2. How many 4x4 frames comes with this kit?

A: The Westcott only comes with 1 frame.

Q: 3. Can the fabric be pressed?

A: It would be best to steam the fabric rather than press it.

Q: 4. are the frame sides a solid 6 feet or do they breakdown to smaller pieces?

A: The frame sides for the 6' x 6' frames are made up of two segments with a frame connector in the middle and on the corners. One segment is 46 and the second is 22 with the remaining length provided by the connectors. The case is 50 to accommodate the frame components.

Q: 5. How do these attach to stands for use as a overhead scrim {butterfly} ???

A: There are a variety of ways to mount this. Most will use a Center Jaw Vise Clamp (Westcott part #1980) and place that into a Grip Head (Westcott Part #1881) which mounts to a light stand. In September of 2019, Westcott will be releasing the Scrim Jim Clamp to provide another mounting option. That part number will be Westcott #2080.

Q: 6. Some one know what the size in meters?

A: 1.2192 x 1.2192 meters.

Q: 7. Will this diffuse bright sunlight enough to soften out shadows nicely?

A: The 3/4 stop will soften the shadows however for more diffusion there is the one stop and 1 1/4 stop fabrics. Also, as others have stated, the larger sizes may provide more of the soft quality of light you are looking for.

Q: 8. Do I need to purchase an 1/4 and 1/2 stop fabric separately?

A: Westcott Scrim Jim Cine 1/2-Stop and 1/4 can be located using the following link https://bhpho.to/3oF8QIA

Q: 9. How do you rig this frame to a C-stand?

A: There are threaded holes embedded in the center of each length of the frame. The idea is to insert a spigot into the threaded holes on opposite sides and then attach the spigots and assembled frame to C stand knuckles. This works adequately indoors but it is totally useless outside with any sort of wind present. The aluminum frame is just too soft and the embedded holes will twist within the soft aluminum. I use mini slip jaw clamps to grab the frame and then drop those into the knuckles. This set up is rock solid and won't further damage the frame.

Q: 10. How many of the frames will fit in each carrying case? I already own one with no case and it would be ideal to have two and have them both fit in the carrying case.

A: Hi, You maybe able to fit 2 kits, not sure because I only own one. Hope that helped
