I've been working on a stable platform for shooting video from a car/safari vehicle. The main problem is that most video heads for tripods have a leveling handle under the head making it hard to mount and level on a vehicle door. This leveling device allows me to use a smaller video head on a flat platform strapped to the car door. That silver ring has to be loosened to level the head. The only problem is that it takes 2 hands for me to loosen it, level and then tighten it again. If it was a little wider it would be easier to loosen with one hand and maybe faster to level.

Got this new head because the locking lever keeps breaking on my Velbon tripod. The Slik head has the same 1/4" thread to match the Velbon legs so just fits straight on.

Was looking for a way to mount a light weight movie camera on a steady platform attached to a car or truck window to shoot wildlife in Botswana and South Africa. Part if my requirements are that the tripod head can't be very tall or I won't be able to see what the camera is seeing. This mount gives me a way to stabilize and level the tripod head without adding much height. Works perfectly.

This leveling base is great because it does not have an knob off on the side. I bought a different one but I could not turn the knob, it would hit my tripod. This one you just loosen the ring and level and re-tighten it. Works much better than ones with the knop or handle on the side. It is all metal and feel well made.

Wow, this is a nice head, It's perfect for shooting video, which is what I needed it for, so it' said perfect fit.

Versatile, easy to use, very smooth. I bought this head and tripod years ago and loved it. During our last move, the spring clamp on the head was broken when our gorilla movers got their hands on it.... I didn't hesitate to get the exact same head to replace the broken one. Well worth the extra $$$.

I use this unit on almost everyone of my tripods with a spotting scope; so that the scope will have a level horizon, especially when used for digiscoping. Excellent dollar value, for a well made unit.
