The Mackie 402VLZ4 4-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer features Onyx microphone preamps in an ultra-compact design and is suitable for professional low-input applications. From every input to every output, the mixer is designed to provide the highest headroom and lowest noise possible for maximum signal integrity.

The mixer is built like a tank with a rugged solid-steel chassis and high-contrast controls for discernible tactile control. With features like instrument level inputs, phantom power, and level metering, the 402VLZ4 4-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer is a good choice for anybody who is big on performance, but light on inputs. The bottom panel of the mixer features has three non-threaded holes that allow it to be fitted with an optional microphone stand adapter (sold separately). This lets you support the mixer on a standard microphone stand and adjust its height and level to whatever suits your preferences.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use the FX send on this unit to do a mix-minus for a podcast, when attached to a phone--that is, without applying any effects? From the manual it sounded like the FX knob would only send to the internal FX, but I see that FX jack on the console. Thanks!

A: You should be able to use the FX send without applying any effects and it should work to do a mix-minus setup.

Q: 2. The spec says, "Power Supply External AC Connector: 2-Pin IEC 250 VAC". Does this mean this will work on 110V - 250V?

A: The Mackie 402VLZ4 4-Channel Ultra-Compact Mixer that we sell comes packaged with a power supply for use in North America. The included power supply is compatible for use with 100 to 120V only.

Q: 3. Can I plug in a line level input from a mixing board?

A: Yes

Q: 4. Is it possible to assign different effects to different channels, or can you only choose one for all?

A: It is not possible to assign different effects to different channels. The effects processing works globally so it affects all of the channels, but you are able to select which individual channels you want to use the effects on.

Q: 5. Can this mixer connect 6 microphones? If so, how to connect in line 5/6 or line 7/8?

A: No, the Mackie ProFX10v3 10-Channel Sound Reinforcement Mixer with Built-In Effects has only four mic preamps so it is intended for use with up to four microphones. In order to use the line level input channels (5/6 and 7/8) for microphones, you could use a separate mic preamp like the Rolls MP13 Mini-Mic Preamp (B&H # ROMP13) and connect its 1/4" output to the 1/4" inputs on the mixer. You can either use a 1/4" TS to 1/4" TS cable like the Kopul Premium Performance 3000 Series 1/4" Male to 1/4" Male Instrument Cable- 3' (B&H # KOI3003) to connect to the mono (left) input on the mixer for a mono signal or use a Y-cable like the Hosa Technology Stereo 1/4" Male to 2 Mono 1/4" Male Insert Y-Cable - 3.3' (B&H # HOYCSPM2PM3) to connect to both the left and right inputs 5/6 and/or 7/8 for a stereo signal. As a better option, if you do not already have the ProFX10v3, you may want to consider the Mackie ProFX12v3 12-Channel Sound Reinforcement Mixer with Built-In FX (B&H # MAPROFX12V3) which is the model up from the ProFX10v3. The ProFX12v3 has seven input channels that can be used to connect microphones.

Q: 6. What's different between the v2/v3?

A: Hi, the newer v3 models come included with Pro Tools software, have more effects, 24-Bit / 192kHz USB recording. Thank you for shopping at B&H!

Q: 7. Dear B&H: You need to do more of an explanation of what this is! Does it have semi-hard sides, as does the mixer bag for the DL1608, or is it just a canvas bag? Also, for Pete's sake, B&H sells cameras, and you have the bag in stock. Take a picture of it! I'm ready to purchase the mixer, but need to have a means to carry it around. I don't want to put it in a rack.

A: This bag is a soft case, with no hard sides, that can be used to protect the mixer from moisture and dust and is suitable for transport and storage. We do currently include photos of the product here.

Q: 8. are headphone levels independent of main levels?

A: Is that a knob labeled phones directly above the master volume knob that I see? Oh, wouldnt ya know it.... it is.

Q: 9. Can each channel be recorded as a separate track through the USB? Is a specific program or driver required?

A: The Mackie ProFX10v3 10-Channel Sound Reinforcement Mixer with Built-In FX only offers 2 inputs and 4 outputs via USB, so that would not provide full multi-track recording. If a full multi-track recording is required, the mixer would need to be paired with an audio interface that provides the needed number of input channels.

Q: 10. What type USB cable is necessary for connecting a computer to the mixer's USB?

A: This mixer's USB connection requires a USB Type-B cable such as BH #PECUAMUBM6 .

The audio is very clean for a mixer this size. It's a bare-bones mixer and it's exactly what I needed for my livestreams. The protective case is a bonus and shouldn't be sold without it. I use it with an ATEM Mini Pro. Main outs into the MIC 1 input. Works perfectly.

Compact, flexible, clean. Perfect for solo multi-tracking recording (up to 196kHz/24 bits), Zooming, YouTubing, whatever. On-board compressors and effects. Rock solid performance. Can't think of any negatives yet. This is the mixer I recommend to everyone.
