When used with the Losmandy DVDWS, DVWS, or WS counterweight systems, this 5 lb Counterweight allows you to properly balance your OTA and accessories on a mount. It can be used alone or stacked with other weights to relieve stress on the mount's gears, which makes it easier to move for smooth tracking. The center bore hole is threaded to fit the system's counterweight shaft and allows the weight to be set into position anywhere along the shaft for precision balancing.

I now run a dovetail plate on top of the scope rings on my heavier telescopes, which provides a handle. Adding this item allows easier balancing of the scope when changing eyepieces by sliding forward or back along the top plate without having to loosen rings or sliding main dovetail plate on mount. 5

Excellent low cost solution for my problem of too much backweight. On my C5e with a smaller vixen rail I was not able to balance my scope. This Vixen or Losmandy system solved it easily. I even purchased the 1.5LB counterweight, for more versaltility Highly recommend it!!! 5

Got this because iOptron 5 lb counterweights have been on backorder for quite some time. This Losmandy has a 28.8mm shaft hole, while the iOptron shaft is 28mm - so it fits just fine. A little bit of play but not an issue at all. Works well on my iOptron CEM40EC (latest version with 28mm counterweight shaft). 5

Very Helpful in Balancing OTAs in DEC. I have used these at the rear of dovetail plates to offset nose-heavy refractors, and in the front to offset butt-heavy SCTs. With the long, nose-heavy refractors, it enables the OTA to be higher up on the saddle and keep the camera from hitting the tripod while pointing toward the zenith. The shorter screw is needed to keep from hitting my mount head. 5
