With the Losmandy Single-Axis Camera Rotation Mount you can now quickly and easily mount a DSLR camera onto EQ, alt-az, or motorized mount heads for wide-field, Solar (with proper filters), and Lunar astrophotography. The base is compatible with Losmandy's large D or smaller V-plates for use with the two most popular plate sizes, while a standard 1/4"-20 threaded post on top enables fast attachment of a camera with a full 360° rotation for precise shot selection without the need for tools thanks to a tightening large knob. Made of a lightweight and durable aluminum alloy, it sports a scratch and corrosion-resistant anodized finish to protect it. When using a D-plate, the height from the top of the plate to the top of the camera mount is 1.80"; when using a V-plate, the height is 1.55".

Q: 10. Does this lock only by friction/tension, or, does it also have ratcheting teeth (similar to Westcott and Kupo tilt umbrella brackets)? On a 50degree tilt angle, can it securely lock while holding an extension arm with a 46 umbrella and four Nikon SB910 speedlights?

A: Friction only. I would NOT recommend loading it with that much gear. Use a heavier boom arm and a grip head.

Not much to say - the mount and the HD tripod that I bought with it are very solid and well-made. When set up, it's vibration-free and very suitable for viewing the sky with larger telescopes, along with astrophotography (which I'm just starting to dabble with) which requires very precise tracking.

My larger telescope weighs between 23 and 26 pounds depending on what apparatus I have attached - this mount easily handles that. Losmandy is quite conservative in their capacity ratings, unlike some companies.

Received the mount last week getting all setup in my observatory. Cant wait to start using it. Its the quality you would expect from Losmandy.

Physical setup is a breeze, electronic setup is... different. My old AVX was never a good performer and I repeatedly had to repair its electronics and mechanical interfaces. I have several scopes, from an 80mm f/6 refractor to a 10 Meade SCT and the AVX would only handle and stay relatively accurate withthe lightest of them - visual only. Finally, when the old AVX serial hand controller bit the dust I ordered a replacement and had a 5mo. wait. So , I went with US made and ordered the Losmandy mount. Physical setup is easy. Electronic setup up is way different than the AVX and other Chinese mounts. There is much more capability in the SW controls with the Gemini 2 controller. You don't need to add any interface dongles to tie this mount to a PC for remote control. It works with ASCOM out of the box. And it can carry 55lbs of payload for astrophotography. I wish that I did not have to watch videos for setup and mount-use help, I would rather read a paragraph quickly than sit through 20 minutes of video to get my setup or use questions answered.
