The Hoya 95mm Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

This filter is non-coated and has approximately 93% average light transmission. It is constructed from optical glass and precision-milled aluminum-alloy frames.

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.

Polarizing filters arrange, and filter, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.

Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.

Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.

Non-coated.

Approximately 93% average light transmission.

3 to 4x filter factor reduces exposure by 1.6 to 2 stops.

Constructed from optical glass and precision milled aluminum frames.

Plastic filter case for storage and transport.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this filter be screwed on a lens with 95mm filter thread (without using Evo P Series Filter Holder)?

A: The filter is only for use in a holder. For a 95mm lens, you would need this X-Pro size version: https://bhpho.to/3oGVzua Plus you would need this holder: https://bhpho.to/39rXyfr And this adapter: https://bhpho.to/35zB5Mw

Q: 2. Just to be sure, does the 49mm filter have a revolving feature as previous filters or is it a fixed immovable one?

A: Yes, all Circular Polarizing filters rotate.

Q: 3. What's the difference with the Cokin P164?

A: The main difference is that the P164 is a circular 84mm filter with no front threads while this EVO filter is a circular 95mm filter and has front threads.

Q: 4. Does this have front end filter threads such that a Lee adaptor can be put on?

A: This has front end threads

Q: 5. How does the Hoya Brand compare to Heliopan or Sony circular polarizers?

A: Hoya makes a very good filter and is comparable to Sony and just under Heliopan's quality.

Q: 6. Are the rings brass or aluminum? Are there front threads?

A: The rings are aluminum. Brass rings have a tendency to transfer any impact shock directly to the lens, while aluminum rings ill absorb most of the impact.

Q: 7. Hoya 82mm HD3 Circular Polarizer Filter and Hoya 82mm EVO Antistatic Circular Polarizer Filter. Which one is better and why? Why HD3 so expensive? Is the photos will be different?

A: The HD3 has harder coatings, and uses a higher quality polarization film.

Q: 8. Zeiss or Hoya HD3 CP? They are about equal in price, but which is the better filter for Sony f/2.8 24-70?

A: Both filters have an anti-reflective coating, but the Hoya HD3 would have a 16 layer coating which prevents scratches, stain, and is water resistant, for easier cleaning. Also it has a thinner ring which is better for wider lenses like a Sony 24-70mm f/2.8.

Q: 9. Different Hoya Circular Polarizer Filters (NXT, HD2, etc) have different filter factors. Is the polarizing effect independent of that factor? Or to state it a different way, does the filter have two effects - polarizing & neutral density? So would a CP filter with a lower (smaller) filter factor be just as effective at the polarizing effect as one with a larger (bigger) filter factor?

A: That is actually a great question. My main experience is with B&W HTC polarizers and the Hoya HD3's. The Hoya HD3 has become my favorite polarizer because it is so bright and easy to use. I'm not sure if the degree of polarization is the same because of the extra brightness, but it works SO well that it does not seem to matter if there is a small loss in any way. Also, the HD3 goes very nicely from warm to cool as you rotate it which is very useful. When I go back to my B&W polarizer it works well only on bright days when there is a lot of light - so to put it bluntly, the HD3 will spoil you in every way and is worth the money.

Q: 10. Is this a rotating filter for different darkness or is it just a straight one color?

A: A polarizing filter helps eliminate reflections, from shiny surfaces such as water, glass, etc. One can control unwanted reflections by rotating the filter to minimize or even eliminate reflections. This filter has no effect on colors.

Living in AZ I use a polarizer everyday. Easy to use and well worth the price.

Not the best on skin tone (so beware!), but looks amazing when used in the outdoors. Everything is richer... looks like I used Photoshop to make the colors pop!

I use this circular polarizer quite often. In particular, the threads on the filter actually fit. I've tried less expensive filters, but they often bind and are difficult to screw on or off a lens. When I need my polarizer, I want something that's well made and works with me not against me. That's why I like Hoya.

This filter is rugged and does the job well, have even used it taking of the moon! This Filter has helped increase color contrast and reduced alot of stray refections.

I upgraded from a lower quality brand polarizer. I notice an improvement in effective polarization and love the slimmer profile.

Works as it should at a good price point. I use the filter primarily to photograph aircraft at high altitudes with a Canon RF 800mm f/11 IS STM Lens on a Canon R7. The filter effectively reduces atmospheric haze with notable improvement in image quality.

I use this on an Olympus lens. No significant color shift, good optical quality. I use polarizers frequently in landscape shots.
