Exactly what I was looking for, and at a good price. Works great. I bought two for redundancy as I run a video production company. We keep one on-site and one off site.Only word of caution is: they're not kidding about consumer-grade hard drives. Don't use them! Make sure you get NAS rated drives for them. I first bought some cheaper WD drives and the system pretty much failed. Hard lesson learned - took me a long time to recover. Swapped out with proper NAS drives and haven't had a single issue. Also, customer service is great and based out of Minnesota here in the good ole US of A

The build quality is great. Hard drives slide right into the bays without needing trays or tools. It runs quiet and the drives stay cool. I use it in JBOD with MS Server2012R2, DrivePool and WD-Red drives. I use it for backup so the speed isn't so important to me, but it seems plenty fast using the USB 3.0. Highly recommended.

This worked well on the USB 3.0 port on my router. This is a solid construction, very well built and heavy.

I purchased this to replace a 2-drive enclosure for backups. I'm using RAID 5 and I specifically wanted a 5-Bay enclosure (vs 4-Bay), and I'm very pleased with this system. I have five 4-TB drives in it, so RAID 5 gives me 16 TB of usable storage and will keeping functioning even if a single drive fails. I recommend getting Seagate NAS series of drives, which B&H sells as of this writing. They cost a little more, but they're designed for serious use.The unit is fairly quiet. It comes with cables for all the interfaces it supports (USB 3.0, eSATA and Firewire). I recommend downloading the user manual from Oyen Digital's website. The manual is well written and explains clearly how to clear and reset the RAID/JBOD configuration.Windows 7 didn't need any special drivers to recognize it. Since the RAID controller is in the enclosure, Windows sees it as a big external drive. Formatting took a long time - 36 hours. But once formatted, it performs very well.

this is a good enclosure. It is very easy to setup the RAID configuration. The drives are nice and secure inside and the easy access bays, plus the hot swap capabilities make it ideal for quickly changing drives while working.

I have two enclosures configured as simple identical JBOD nonRAIDs with 2TB and 4TB HDDs. Data is written constantly and one enclosure serves as backup. If one array fails, a backup is immediately available. It's a simple low tech solution that doesn't waste time rebuilding data. The enclosure is consistently cool. The fan is constant speed which ideally suits constant 7200rpm HDDs that will run hot without fan cooling. The fan noise is audible but not irritating; the sound is a low frequency hush. Installation is simple, insert a HDD and close the door. That's it, no screws. The door lock is ideal to stop curious hands from opening a door and ejecting a drive. The enclosure is well-built and rugged. The power supply is built-in. The USB 3.0 and FW800 connections are tight and not sloppy. Each door handle has perforations to let in cool air. A lot of thought and good ideas went into the design.

Love this unit. i have two of them..use one for time machine with 2 4TB drives and the other i use with 2 6TB drives and sometimes 2 8TB drives. Works great. Nice and quiet. Super easy to swap out drives..just remember to shut the machine off before taking out the drives.
