Specifically designed to produce creative selective focus effects, the Composer Pro II with Edge 80 Optic from Lensbaby pairs the 80mm f/2.8 optic with a lens body for Canon EF-mount cameras. The Edge 80 is a unique lens, which affords a distinct sharp sliver of focus surrounded by a smoothly blurred background. When coupled with the Composer Pro II, this slice of focus can be moved anywhere within the image area and changed in dimension, using up to 15° of tilt on the lens body. The optic also features a manual aperture for adjusting the size of the in-focus area and has a 12-blade diaphragm to further contribute to a smooth bokeh quality in the out-of-focus regions. The lens is constructed with five glass elements in four groups, and each of the elements are multicoated to resist flare and ghosting for high contrast, color-accurate imagery.

  • Portrait-length 80mm f/2.8 lens provides a comfortable, slightly narrow field of view that is well-suited to isolating subject matter.
  • Flat field rendering delivers a high degree of sharpness and, when tilted in the Composer II, a dramatic slice of focus is produced that is bordered by a smooth and even blur to isolate subjects with selective focus.
  • Besides adjusting exposure, the f/2.8 to f/22 aperture range allows you to control the size of the sweet spot of focus.
  • A 12-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth, pleasing bokeh quality.
  • Lens construction uses five glass elements in four groups, and each of the elements are multi-coated to resist flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color accuracy.

  • Canon EF lens mount
  • Enables tilting the optic up to 15° to vary the amount and position of the sweet spot of focus
  • Accepts various optics from the Optic Swap System
  • Metal body for improved durability and rigidity

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what is the difference between the 'sweet' version and the 'edge' version?

A: The main difference would be the shape of the blur/bokeh pattern created by the lens. The Lensbaby "Sweet" lenses create a rounder radial bokeh blur pattern, while the Lensbaby Edge creates a straight 'slice' (think more rectangular) bokeh blur pattern. The size and amount of the blur with both lenses can be controlled by the aperture you choose, and the strength and position of the blur can be controlled by the position of the lens.

Q: 2. This Lens works with eos m3 ...? Antonio de la rosa

A: Unfortunately, our Canon lenses are not compatible with your mirrorless Canon camera. Our lenses have a Canon EF mount. Your camera needs a Canon EF-M mount.

Q: 3. Does anybody have pictures taken with this combo?

A: Yes, you can click the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/36e0ysm

Q: 4. I'm looking for a versatile medium telephto lens for both photo and video. The lensbaby is intriguing. Can I enlarge the in-focus area enough to use it as a true telephoto to capture video simply by stopping down the aperture? Has anyone experience using this lens for video?

A: Hi John, This lens can be used for video but it is not a telephoto lens.

Q: 5. will this lens vignette on a full frame at max tilt?

A: There should be no vignetting when the Edge 50 is fully tilted in the Composer Pro II on your full frame camera.

Q: 6. Doesn't the original have a "sweet spot of focus"? I can't wait to see the difference in this new lens.

A: The Lensbaby Composer Pro II with Double Glass II Optic (Canon RF) is similar to the original, but with a metal body and a tilt function, as well as the same sweet spot of focus.

Q: 7. Do you have to buy a separate part for this to be compatible with a canon camera? Like some type of mount?

A: The Lensbaby Edge 80 Optic attaches to other Lensbaby lenses, and Lensbaby produces lenses with Canon EF mount. An example of a lens you could mount the optic on is the Lensbaby Composer: http://bhpho.to/1oBqzUA

Q: 8. Does this lensbaby come with bottom and top lens dust caps?

A: The Edge 50 Optic comes with a front cap and the Composer Pro II comes with a rear cap.

Q: 9. What is the minimum focusing distance?

A: 8 inches when using the built in extension function.

Q: 10. Will this work for a Sony A5000?

A: Yes, the Edge 80 Optic is compatible with your Sony A5000 camera but you will need a Composer Pro II (or other Lensbaby lens body) to install it in first.

I had my eye on the Edge 35 for a while and was thrilled when they were back in stock. I love the Edge 35 highlights the subject with a slice of focus while the rest of the photo falls into a nice blur. I like how you can make that slice of focus bigger or smaller when changing the aperture. The slice of focus can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal depending on how you tilt the composer II body. It can also turn into a standard 35mm lens if you leave the composer II straight (no tilt).

I am very happy with my purchase!

This lens is super fun! The optic is nice and sharp, although not for the precision level of a geared shift/tilt lens, it’s great for expressive use of selective focus.
