Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What sync cable is compatible?

A: The Profoto D2 1000Ws AirTTL Monolight uses a standard 1/8" (3.5 mm) sync terminal on the monollight light fixture. The sync input is located on the bottom of the unit as pictured on page 9 of the Profoto D2 1000Ws AirTTL Monolight's included instruction manual (labeled as #14 in the image). If you are looking for a recommendation, the Profoto Sync Cable for D1 Monolight, B&H # PRSCD1, or the Impact Sync Cord Male Mini (3.5mm) to Male PC (16'), B&H # IMMMPCM16, would both be compatible for your usage needs.

Q: 2. Can I use this moonlight to optically trigger a (slave) Canon 600EX-RT flash?

A: The Canon 600 EX-RT uses a proprietary optical signal that this unit can not control or trigger.

Q: 3. Would three D1 lights fit?

A: Yes.

Q: 4. I saw the profoto d2 custom picture . Is the handle broken ?

A: No. That is the design on the unique strobe unit.

Q: 5. I want to purchase this kit. I'm just wondering if I will be able to use it together with 2 SB-910 Nikon flashes using the Profoto Air Remote TTL-N. Do I need to purchase anything on top of these to make it work?

A: If you purchase the Profoto universal Transceiver for @ SB-910 or use the Optical slave in the SB-24

Q: 6. Hi, I'm not able to upgrade my profoto D2 heads to the A3 firmware. I'm following the instructions on the screen but the click here to start upgrade button is not lighting up. I'm using a mac book pro OS Sierra. What should i do? Thank's

A: I had the same problem at first so I followed Profoto's troubleshooting directions and tried it on a different computer. That worked perfectly.

Q: 7. Would this fit the older AcuteB2 pack with head? And if so, would it fit 2 sets?

A: The Profoto Bag S Plus for D2 Monolight is not designed for usage with the Profoto Acute B2. It was designed to hold three (3) Profoto D2 monolight strobes, which have the power pack and strobe head self-contained in one single fixture. However, as the dimensions of the Profoto D2 Monolight are 12.2 x 5.1 x 7.1 (31 x 13 x 18 cm), while the dimensions of the Profoto Acute B2 are 7.5 x 5.3 x 7.9 (19 x 13.5 x 20 cm), the smaller power pack should be able to fit in the monolight case, though the configuration of the case is designed for the monolight. As this is a special order item that is not in our inventory and not on display in our NYC Superstore (and as the Acute B2 is no longer available), we cannot state how many units may be held with any certainty; I can only estimate possibly holding two power packs and 1-2 strobes. The best I can recommend would be to purchase the unit, and if it does not work for your usage needs, contact Customer Service to inquire about returning the unit for an exchange or refund.

Q: 8. What is the most common way to power these on location?

A: A good way to power these monolights on location when an AC outlet is not available is with the use of the Profoto Batpac, B&H # PRBPP. Please see the image below for reference.

Q: 9. I assume this will respond to the Profoto Connect Pro remote?-- not just the one listed as "essential" here

A: Yes the Profoto Connect Remote can fire this Profoto D2 1000 Air Monolight.

Q: 10. Can you plug this light right into a wall?

A: Yes, it can be plugged into the wall directly.

Solid light. So powerful and easy to use. As long as you have a power source you are all set. Works well for big jobs or in small studio. I also used on location with an appropriate extension cord.

A great light. I use these in a school auditorium to photograph award presentations and play rehearsals. It provides superior light to the lights in the auditorium.

I am a full time Studio and Location photographer. Currently own multiple sets of B1 and B2 battery operated Profoto lights for location shooting. The HSS feature with the additional 1 full stop over B1 and 2 stops over B2 made these lights appealing for the studio and for demanding location shots. We are now able to shoot in bright daylight at 1/8,000th second at f2.8 and completely over-power the sun with deep blue skies. Also the Freeze mode is great for freezing water droplets in mid air and other high speed action shots. The one drawback of the D2 Lights are that they are VERY top heavy, even more so than the B1's so you need really heavy duty light stands, and if shooting on location in any kind of breeze, you will need lots of sandbags. Build quality is the top-of-the-line Profoto quality we have all come to expect. Lights are easy to use, menu system is intuitive, software is easy to update via USB, and all our Profoto RFi modifiers, softboxes, beautydishes, etc all work across the D2/B1/B2 range

Good equipment is indicative of working so well that I can completely focus on the image. If you've ever fought the equipment to make it work, then you know there's nothing more loathsome than subpar gear. In the long run it ends up costing more money than it's worth - lost productivity and business. Then there's the sad fact of buying something twice, and the realization that I would have saved money buying the more expensive item right from the start.

That said, the D2's are fantastic and a wonderful compliment to my D1's. The TTL feature of these lights with the Profoto Air remote is incredible. The exposures were spot on in testing as I ran through the apertures; no more fumbling around with goldilocks adjustments of too hot, too cold, just right. Complete freedom to focus on the image and composition is worth the cost of admission of the D2's.

I use 4 1000's constantly and am extremely pleased with the results. Super fast, intuitive, durable, but expensive. I first questioned the high price tags on all Profoto products, but after using the gear for more than a year now, I'm convinced I made the right decision. I plan to purchase three additional 1000's for the studio, and will have to sell a kidney to eat, but as long as I keep freezing the action, it's worth it. When purchasing peripherals, forget about the snoots, get the grids. Heavy duty C-stands are a must, I use Avenger with 5lb sand bags and have no problems even with a boom extended. You know the awesome feeling you get when unboxing a new toy? It doesn't compare to what you'll feel when viewing image results after using these lights for the first time. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

I've been using another brand of strobe lights for the last 5 years and they're great, nothing bad to say about quality for the price I paid but I'm blown away by Profoto and so happy I finally upgraded. It costs a lot, especially when you need several heads, but it's worth it. The recycling rate, the quality of the light and capabilities and solid design is incredible. I'm in love with my new profoto lights!! Can't wait to try the freeze action!

I have had the opportunity to use the D1 before buying the D2s. Their performance did not disappoint! Solid operations and output!
They are a little pricey but worth every penny to me! During one 4 hour photo shoot they handled over 6,000 images with no misfires.

You may be wondering if the sizable investment into these lights is worth it. While I can't answer that for you, for me it was absolutely worth it. The build quality is second to none. They FEEL solid. They perform as you would expect strobes in this price point to perform. They are incredibly fast. The recycle time is enough to make a grown man cry in delight.

Your bank account will suffer. But your creative freedom will fly.
