Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the power cable permanently attached to the light or is it exchangeable ? I am back and forth between the US and Europe and would like to be able to use the lights by switching out the cables when traveling back and forth.

A: Hi Darnell, the cable is changable and not afixed to the lights. We use them all over the world and have different cables for different regions. They're great lights!

Q: 2. Would this work on the older Acute2 1200 pack?

A: It works for my 2400 pack and I'm pretty sure its the same connection so it should work fine

Q: 3. Can you plug this light right into a wall?

A: Yes, it can be plugged into the wall directly.

Q: 4. Is this the cable that comes standard with the D2?

A: Yes, the Profoto Power Cable for D2 (16', US / No. America) is the original power cable designed for use with both the Profoto D2 500Ws AirTTL Monolight or the Profoto D2 1000Ws AirTTL Monolight.

Q: 5. Can the Profoto D2 1000 Air TTL be connected to an external power pack, and if so what type?

A: The Profoto D2 1000Ws AirTTL Monolight is designed for AC power usage. If you wish to use the strobe on location, you would need to purchase a power inverter strong enough to handle the above strobe. As a recommendation, I would recommend either the Photogenic Ion Lithium-ion Pure Sine Wave Inverter System, B&H # PHION, which should give you approximately 360 flashes per charge with approximately 7.5 second recycling time, or the Hensel Power Max L Lithium Mobile Power Supply (120VAC), B&H # HEPML120, which should give you approximately 220 flashes on a single charge with the recycling time 50% longer than your current recycling time when plugged into a standard AC household outlet.

Q: 6. What portable battery can I use. I shoot mostly on location

A: I used the MiniVagabond, it worked fine but there are limitations if you want to use HSS. Will require you to shoot in low power mode which results in a slower power recycle.

Q: 7. Would this cable work with a Profoto D1 1000w Air Monolight?

A: yes!

Q: 8. Can these be used with Pocket Wizards?

A: Yes they can. There is a mini phone plug on the bottom and can be used with any remote trigger or wired. You will lose TTL, HSS and remote control ability by using a Pocket Wizard.

Q: 9. Does your D2 fan runs in standby mode? Also I hear a rattle inside the unit

A: Yes, the fan in my D2 runs as long as the unit is plugged in. A firmware update for the D2 improved a color temp mismatch between it and my D4 powerpack/Acute head system and I hoped it would also stop the fan after the D2 had cooled, but no. I've gotten used to unplugging the D2 when I feel it has cooled off. A pain definitely but not that big a deal, for me at least, the fan is noisy enough that I haven't yet forgotten to unplug it.

Q: 10. does the head on these zoom? it appears too in the 2 front photos

A: The markings on the side of the body are used when there is a Profoto Zoom 2 Reflector attached to this or when a softbox is attached. The head itself will not zoom in or out from the built in stand bracket.

You may be wondering if the sizable investment into these lights is worth it. While I can't answer that for you, for me it was absolutely worth it. The build quality is second to none. They FEEL solid. They perform as you would expect strobes in this price point to perform. They are incredibly fast. The recycle time is enough to make a grown man cry in delight.

Your bank account will suffer. But your creative freedom will fly.

I've been using another brand of strobe lights for the last 5 years and they're great, nothing bad to say about quality for the price I paid but I'm blown away by Profoto and so happy I finally upgraded. It costs a lot, especially when you need several heads, but it's worth it. The recycling rate, the quality of the light and capabilities and solid design is incredible. I'm in love with my new profoto lights!! Can't wait to try the freeze action!
