Q: 1. can the base separate?I would like to confirm if on this unit, are the 4 screws at the bottom of the base that are shown in the photo, is it possible if those were loosen, that I could then detach the black rubber neck piece, resulting in having 2 separate pieces?I have a older Photoflex Octobox that I use with another strobe, and when I mounted my octobox to those strobes there was a plate that appears to look just like the one in this photo but it does not have that wide base part with the 4 screws, which is where the rods connect to.I have the D2 profoto now, but i just need the speedring that will slide onto barrel of my profoto and the other end will be the thin, flat, round plate that I would connect to my octobox and tighthen down with the 4 screws it has.So if I could verify that this item could be separated into 2 pieces, this might be what I have been looking for?

This ring is durable and the quality is not an issue. It was found that some BXRI units have posed fitting issue for Photoflex and research has indicated that the first run of BXRI heads were made slightly off spec. by Elinchrom. The situation has been rectified and the issue has been solved.

Photoflex made an excellent quality speedring. I am using it to attach Profoto 3x4 softboxes to Elinchrom RX 600 monolights. There is no Profoto or Elinchrom speedring sold in the US to do this.

This Speed Ring is well built. I'm using it on my Elinchrom lights with a Photoflex Half Dome. There's absolutely nothing 'wrong' with this Speed Ring. That said, like most softboxes getting the rods into it the first time or two will cause you to perspire slightly. Second issue (probably more about the monolight than the ring) is that getting it secured in my Elinchrom's is a bit of an art. There isn't an easy way to get this done unfortunately.

I have 2 other speed rings and was glad to see that I can use the same product. This is totally easy to use with the softboxes I own.

I use this to attach my Photoflex Octoadome to the Elinchrom Quadra reflector adapter. It attaches quickly and securely, adding minimal weight. I like to use the setup on a handheld boom and this works brilliantly.

I initially bought this speedring to replace the one currently in use by my large octogonal softbox. The reason being very simple, i wanted to get the softbox mounted on the stand directly, as opposed to weighting down the flash. This speedring contains 10 holes total, if i counted right, and 2 of them are threaded at least. Using the threaded hole, i can mount it directly on a heavy duty bracket which is on the lightstand. Giving me all the normal flexibility, and just having the flash take no weight other then its own. Invaluable! Especially after 1 flash's mount broke from the weight and a sudden push. The downside ? It recesses most flashes a bit too much, the tunneling is annoying but not particularly bad, a simple fix would of been to flip the speedring mount to allow the flash heads to be further out.
