Daystar Filters Calcium Quark Ca H-line Eyepiece Solar Filter

Daystar Filters' Calcium QUARK Ca H-Line Eyepiece Solar Filter departs from traditional K-line tuned filers and focuses on the 396.9nm H-line wavelength. This wavelength is closer to the visible spectrum and is therefore easier to see - especially older users who have trouble seeing the K-line. When using the filter for imaging the sun, H-line provides improved quantum efficiency, higher glass transmission, and improved performance from anti-reflection optical coatings. H-line also offers slightly more visible features due to the hydrogen contribution. Views through the filter show the chromosphere, plages/faculae, sun spots, and solar flares in a vibrant violet color with high-contrast.
While there are no OTA aperture limitations, Daystar recommends the use of rear UV/IR cut filters for long-duration solar viewing sessions, or OTAs larger than 80mm (3.1"). For best results, they suggest using refractor-style scopes with focal ratios between f/7-f/30, and you can enjoy full-disk viewing with focal lengths up to 1800mm.
This all-in-one filter design enables the use of nighttime telescopes for solar viewing, and is engineered to eliminate unnecessary components which reduced the size and weight. This streamlined form enables it to simply insert into 1.25" or 2" diagonals and accepts 1.25" eyepieces. The filter is powered via a micro-USB port, and Daystar includes a power cord and an AC adapter to meet the high-power requirements of 5 VDC 1.5A. To enable its use at home and abroad, a set of international outlet plugs is provided with adapters for the US, UK, EU, and Australia.

Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. DayStar Filters Camera Quark H-alpha Solar Filter for Canon (Prominence): Does this provide product adequate filtration of the sun for the upcoming eclipse, or does it need to be used in consort with additional filters on camera/scope for viewing?
A: The DayStar Filters Camera Quark H-alpha Solar Filter for Canon (Prominence) goes between your lens and camera. You still need a ERF (energy reflecting filter) on the front of your lens. This will prevent damage to the lens. For help choosing a ERF (energy reflecting filter) for your lens email us at sportoptics@bandh.com.
Q: 2. Is this compatible with Nikon z or Nikon F ?
A: The DayStar Filters Camera Quark H-Alpha Solar Filter for Nikon (Prominence) will work with Nikon F mount lenses,
Q: 3. What is the difference between a tuned for prominences and a chromosphere filter? Is there one of them that does both better? How do I choose?
A: No, two different condition. The chromosphere is the sun's surface. The prominence is viewing sun flairs around the perimeter of the sun. .
Q: 4. will this work with an ED80T CF Triplet telescope?
A: Just got mine last week and got great views on my old SV AT1010 80mm f6 achro. Just saw black at first then, per the instructions, turned the tuning dial 2 clicks clockwise. In a few minutes i was seeing great chromo and proms as well. I got the front mount uv/ir blocker as i will be using it on a larger scope as well. You won't get a full disc view though because the focal length is greater than 450
Q: 5. Looking at the video, there does not appear to be any filter in front on the front element on the telephoto lense. Wouldn't you have to have a solar filter in front to keep from damaging the internal components of the telephoto lens? Should you use a Mylar solar sheet like I normally use for telephoto sun pictures.
A: You are right,it is called ERF(energy reflecting filter). I have ordered one with my Ha filter Aug 3 but has not arrived. So haven't been able to used the Ha filter.
Q: 6. I have a 24-120 mm using a 77 mm filter. The lens hood diameter is 110 mm. Should I use the lens hood during the eclipse?
A: It is a matter of opinion but I would recommend using the hood always. Even if the sun is directly in the frame and the hood cannot stop the flares, the hood still provides safety protection in case the camera is dropped. Since the Daystar filter is not large enough for the hood, this screw on ND filter can be used for solar protection instead: https://bhpho.to/2m7h8oX
Q: 7. What do I need to use this with my Canon 5D M4?
A: This is to fit Canon SLR and DLSR bodies. You do not need anything extra for a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV.
Q: 8. What size should I get for Canon 70-200?
A: If you go to Daystar website or call them on the phone, I think that is where I read that if you have the 77MM pro lens, meaning it is 77MM in diameter then get the 65 - 89 Solar filter. I have the 70-200 F2.8 non IS lens. I did not put it on yet.
Q: 9. 70 mm size, would it work on my 2 lenses with filter sizes are 77 and 62 mm or should I also buy the smaller size?
A: For use on a 77 mm filter size , we recommend the DayStar Filters 90mm White-Light Universal Lens Solar Filter (Single, 85-99mm OD) B&H # DAULF90 90mm = 3.54331 inches. 77 mm = 3.0315 70 mm = 2.75591 inches. 62 mm = 2.44094 inches.
Q: 10. Can I use this with newtonian telescope using off axis reduction?
A: For the DayStar Filters QUARK H-Alpha Eyepiece Solar Filter (Chromosphere) BH #DADSZ4C • MFR #DSZ4C simply inserts into 1.25" or 2" diagonals and accepts 1.25" eyepieces.
