Once you lock it into position using the knob on the side of the arm, the X-Grip does not really rotate a whole lot, but there is about 15-30* of rotation you can get out of the phone (depends on size of phone you mount) relative to the center section of the X-Grip that allows you to tilt the phone slightly. It is secure though so it pretty much maintains that rotation - but once locked in you can't rotate back and forth from landscape to portrait without loosening the knob on the arm and re-setting the X-grip.
