RadioPopper has put together this JR2 Studio Kit for Photogenic with 1 receiver to give photographers the benefit of wireless triggering and power control at distances from 300-1750' away. The kit includes 1 JR2 Transmitter and 1 Receiver.

Transmitter

The RadioPopper Jr2 Transmitter is a 16-channel, 4-group radio transmitter that operates on the 902-928 MHz, ISM band and is capable of adjusting the output of the flash using the kit's Jr2 receiver for Photogenic flash units. Triggering and power control from distances of 300-1750' depending on conditions and environment is possible.

The transmitter's simplified, intuitive backlit display works on an easy to use button and dial design that indicates power levels, group selection, radio channel selection, local or remote control and remaining battery power. The transmitter gets 20 hours of run time on 2 AAA batteries and weighs 1.7 oz. Triggering at sync speeds up to 1/500 sec is possible with cameras that have leaf shutters. The Jr2 Transmitter will also trigger a wide variety of RadioPopper receivers besides the JR2 receiver but without power control.

Receiver

The Radio Receiver for Photogenic Flash Heads plugs into the body of PowerLight and Solair series monolights (except those with manual sliders), allowing triggering of the flash from distances up to 1,750'. The receiver works with virtually all RadioPopper systems and requires the kit's Jr2, or optional PX, JrX, or Nano transmitters for use. In addition to remote triggering, the Jr2 transmitter is also capable of controlling Solair and PowerLight series power levels and modeling light functions. Settings are displayed on an LCD screen built into the receiver. Since it draws its power from the flash head, no batteries are needed.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this trigger a Norman 200C flash?

A: You can check the compatibility by going to the Jr2 site and you will find the list of flashes it will trigger.

Q: 2. How do I select that I want this for canon camera? It says canon or Nikon optional but doesn't give the option to choose between the two. Does it somehow work for both? I added to cart and even then dos not give me the option to select canon or Nikon.

A: The JR2 transmitter actually works for both Nikon or Canon without changing any settings. The transmitter is triggered only by the center contact on the hotshoe. It doesn't use any of the proprietary contacts that communicate TTL exposure. You manually control flash output by manipulating the settings on the transmitter. The JR2 transmitter will allow you to use Nikon speedlights with Canon body or vice versa or even to mix Nikon and Canon and third-party speedlights in the same shot.

Q: 3. Can this Jr2 transmitter trigger Jrx receiver?

A: I think it can, but the folks at Radio Popper are super helpful I would call them to verify!

Q: 4. Can I still sync Nikon SB900/800 remote flashes thru the camera when using the Nano to fire them?

A: A RadioPopper Nano Transmitter B&H # RANANOT would need to be on the camera's hot shoe to fire any Nikon flash attached to a Nano Receiver off camera. You would not be able to use an on camera flash in conjunction with the Nano Transmitter.

Q: 5. Will this receiver work with an older rp transmitter? I lost one of the rp cubes but see that you dont make that model anymore.

A: Unfortunately no. I bought an older version of this thinking it will work with my RP JR2 setup (1 JR2 transmitted, 2 JR2 receivers). The older RP JR1 received did not sync or recognize the RP JR2 transmitter. Recommend by like for like in this case.

Q: 6. How can I connect it to Nikon dc-2 camera plug to remotely trigger the shutter?

A: You would connect a remote cable with the DC-2 connector to this receiver into the miniphone jack on the side of it. One such cable you can use is the Vello 3.5mm Remote Shutter Release Cable for Nikon DC-2 Cameras, B&H # VERCCN235. Please see the image below for reference.

Q: 7. Can this unit be used to remotely trigger a camera?

A: The Jr2 is for remotely setting off flashes not to trigger a camera.

Q: 8. what do I need to use the tx with slt-a65 and rx with hvl-f42am? ( besides the tx & rx)

A: The transmitter has a standard hotshoe. To use that with the Sony a65 you need a transmitter two adapters.RadioPopper Nano TransmitterB&H # RANANOT Mfr # NANO-Thttp://bhpho.to/1yMjB7b This is for the camera.Sony Auto-Lock Shoe AdapterB&H # SOADPAMA Mfr # ADPAMAhttp://bhpho.to/1gjWYR5This is for the flashSony Multi-Interface Shoe AdapterB&H # SOADPMAA Mfr # ADPMAAhttp://bhpho.to/1cjK16q

Q: 9. Will this control power on Nikon SB 900?

A: Yes it will.

Q: 10. can I attach this to the PC cord?

A: From the Radiipopper site. rpjr2. Attach the Jr2 Transmitter to any camera having a standard hot shoe connector. You may also attach the Jr2 Transmitter to the PC Sync or similar connector of your camera with the appropriate cable. In this case, connect the PC Sync port on the side of your camera to the 1/8 sync port on the side of the Jr2 Transmitter. The Jr2 Transmitter can be triggered by your camera's hot shoe or via the sync port on the side of the Jr2 Transmitter.
