Kodak R-27 Gray Cards are used to help check lighting ratios and lighting distribution. They are valuable when you do slide copying or are trying to adjust for proper skin tones in black and white. These cards now incorporate a higher quality MunSell 18% Reflectance (Gray) Neutral Patch. Both cards are double-sided - one side gray and one side white.

I use these gray cards to help determine exposure in the field. They come in two sizes which is very convenient. I also use the white side of the cards to set my white point when shooting flash. Great cards. 5

Think about the total control you have if you use your camera in manual model and measure the quality of light off the gray card. It elimantes the failure of the camera metering system that measures reflected light. So, your white snow becomes gray. With measuring the luminance of the light off your gray card, your snow is white. The gray card will give you perfect exposure. 5

If you can't afford a Gretag color checker, these cards are a great way to get consistent color. Yes, you can get white balance off your subject's white shirt, or use the auto mode, or guestimate when you open the images in photoshop, but there's something almost magic about the color you'll get if you use a real gray card to set your white balance. The best part of this particular version is you get a cute baby-sized grey card that fits in your pocket and is perfect for when you're out with a point-and-shoot. 5

I didn't know what these were for when I bought it, I just bought what was on my class supply list. I think it was a little pricy, but it works great and I do like having different colored sides. 5
