Available for download and produced by the force between Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, and a string of successful solo albums, Steven Wilson's Ghostwriter from EastWest is a virtual instrument featuring over 60GB of eccentric sounds, some familiar, others mutated beyond recognition. Produced by the titular songsmith/engineer in conjunction with Doug Rogers, this collection comprises innovative sounds, replications of recognizably classic timbres originated by pioneer producers/engineers. As such, this download enables you to create complex music productions, and similarly, can be used as the basis for cinematic soundtrack-based music.

Recognizable sounds include basses, drums, ethnic instruments, guitars, keyboards, and vocals. These along with the other sounds are complimented by an effects section, featuring an SSL EQ and dynamics channel strip, a transient shaper, SSL's well-regarded stereo bus compressor, the Echoplex EP-1 delay, an amp simulator, and a stereo convolution reverb from EastWest. The software utilizes a dedicated Opus playback engine, which provides a searchable browser and the ability for users to customize their sounds. It is compatible with Mac and Windows. It runs as standalone software or operates in AU, VST, or AAX formats.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use a 5/8 stud??

A: Yes, the 5/8 stud is what the Magic Arm uses to mount the clamp.

Q: 2. Can this sidecar be used on either side of the console?

A: This sidecar can be placed on either side of the RAVEN CORE Station.

Q: 3. Does it comes with all these instruments?

A: According to their website, the Logitech G Flight Instrument Panel will include 15 Readout Types.

Q: 4. It says that the weight of this keyboard is 65lbs, and 83lbs packaged. What is the additional 18lbs of weight? I'm looking to purchase local and then ship overseas on an airplane as a check-in; however the max weight airline companies accept is 70lbs. So would it be possible to repackage it in a safe way in which it won't weigh over 70lbs? Like taking the pedals out of the package and putting them in a separate bag?

A: Unfortunately we cannot open and repackage any products for you. Doing so would void our vendor agreements and the manufacturer's warranty.

Q: 5. Can the articulated arm be attached directly to this or is something additional needed?

A: Articulating arms with a baby pin/5ths stud or a 1/4 20 thread can be attached directly.

Q: 6. Cakewalk?

A: We cannot confirm whether or not the Steven Slate Audio RAVEN MTi2 MAX DAW Control Surface is compatible for use with Cakewalk. The supported DAWs listed on the manufacturer's website are Pro Tools 19-2023 (macOS and Windows), Logic Pro X (macOS), Ableton Live 9 - 11 (macOS and Windows), Cubase Pro 10 - 13 (macOS & Windows), Nuendo 10 - 13 (macOS & Windows), Studio One v4, v5, and v6 (macOS & Windows), and Digital Performer 8 - 11 (macOS).

Q: 7. Can "Steven Slate VSX Essentials" be ran on a PC or Mac as a standalone software?

A: The Steven Slate VSX Monitoring Plug-In cannot be run in standalone mode.

Q: 8. Is this the correct stud to attach a standard tripod head (such as the 494RC2)? If not what stud should I order please?

A: The stud included with this Super Clamp would not have the correct screw thread to fit a 494 RC2. What is best to use is the Manfrotto 208HEX Head Mounting Plate with Hex Stud - 3/8 Thread B&H # MA208HEX which connects into the hex slot on the Super Clamp and has a tripod base plate on top with a 3/8 thread for attaching a head like the 494RC2. Please see the image below for reference.

Q: 9. What is the part # of the pole attached to this base as in the photo?

A: There are two different poles pictured. The small pole is MBOOMCFVR-SUS, the medium pole is MBOOMCFVR-MUS and the large one (not pictured) is MBOOMCFVR-LUS

Q: 10. How large is the bowl for the half-bowl leveler? The Manfrotto website says both 60 and 75.

A: The Manfrotto Virtual Reality Aluminum Base with Half Ball Leveler has a 60-75mm bowl--it is adjustable.

I recently splurged on the Slate VSX headphones and, honestly, they're pretty awesome. The coolest part? They've got this tech that mimics different studio environments. It's like being in an acoustic wonderland, right from my own desk. I'm into music production, and these headphones have totally changed how I mix and master my tracks. And the sound - it's just wow. Crisp, clear, and balanced. The bass has just the right amount of kick, and I can hear every little detail in the mids and highs. It's not just great for work; even when I'm kicking back with some tunes, the experience is top-notch.

But let's get real - they're not perfect. Setting them up was a bit of a headache. There's software, calibration... it's a bit much at first. And the whole studio-simulating thing, as cool as it is, might not be everyone's cup of tea. It took me a bit to really get the hang of it. On the plus side, they're super comfy - a big deal for someone like me who's glued to them for hours. They're light, the ear pads feel like clouds, and they seem sturdy enough to handle my not-so-gentle care. So, are they worth it? For someone serious about their audio game, absolutely. They're not just headphones; they're like a mini, portable studio.

You can't really go wrong with this set. You might read countless things like, I'll never go back to regular cans or Vastly improved my mixes and I forgot they were on my head, they replicate studio speakers that well. And these statements are all very true.

There is certainly a heavy amount of marketing with these headphones. But, my God can you obtain such a clean mix with these. Will they replace my studio speakers entirely? No. But they are the best way to double check your mixes, no doubt. And it makes it so much easier to find tune EQ and adjust your mix. If you don't have quality studio speakers and a treated room and if these were all you had to go by, it would be acceptable.

The only negative I would say about this set is that while the emulations of professional studios are fantastic, the headphones themselves could certainly be improved. While the bass reproductions work and they provide the data you need to make your adjustments in the mix, the bass is very muted and weak. Again, the necessary frequency reproductions are there but it needs more oomph.

I think what the VSX system needs is just a higher ohm model with some higher quality bass drivers. Why not provide a premium edition?

All in all, I don't think anyone could actually be disappointed with these.

I've been using them for well over a month, at this point, and I can confidently say that they are very much worth every penny.
My favorite room/speaker combination for mixing is the NRG Studios with the midfield speakers.
My second favorite is Archon Studios (again on midfield).
The SUV is really good for a different/troublesome listening environment.
Lastly, the Howie Weinberg Mastering Room is really good for finding honky frequencies, particularly in dialog.
My first music mix was greeted by my bandmates with the first comment that they could hear the bass better than any of our previous demo mixes.
For the cost of the headphones at the highest level, you can't even come close to competing with buying pro-sumer monitors and acoustic treatment.
I'll take it a step further and point out that, if you're like us and can't really afford a studio space that's completely sound treated, or you have multiple machines running in your room (NAS, servers, hard drives, etc.) the amount of money you would spend to accomodate all of that and get an excellent listening environment is going to be a 5-figure investment, easily, if not more. For a few hundred $$$ the headphones will get you everything you need, plus the amazing portability of being able to mix anywhere you can take your laptop and interface.
The Slate VSX Headphones are certainly a game changer that can benefit anyone in the audio realm.

As always, my B&H shipment arrived on time. A

I travel a lot. Tracking in a treated room or the same studio is not an option. These headphones blow me away! The stereo imaging processing that is going on within the software is ridiculously useful and revolutionary. The headphone box and website do a great job at explaining how to set up everything. Just make sure the VSX plugin is the last plugin loaded on the stereo out in your DAW...and, then adjust the plugin volume.

Feels like I'm tracking or mixing through real monitors. You simply have to hear it...no, online review or YouTuber can convey the stereo field that you perceive while listening. Don't sleep on these. They have a natural flat sound without the plugin. Great for tracking. I would compare them to HD280s without the software. With the software...I feel capable tracking, mixing and mastering any project. Worth every penny!

These babies make it easy to mix with relative accuracy while on the road. The settings work as advertised, and provide a great deal of sonic information about how your mix would fare in similar live environments. Of particular help to me was the Club setting, and the ability to toggle between moderate club interiors, and those with heavy bass. I like that Slate makes it easy to purchase the Pro kit software upgrade if you want all the settings available, but the Essentials gives you experiential simulations for EarPods, car, club, and pro studio environments, plus a flat mix setting to acclimate to between environments. To me that setting's like a palate cleanser at a wine tasting—it clears your ears so you can hear new simulated environments without rogue frequencies. My great caution is to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS first and take time to acclimate to the headphones by critically listening to a variety of familiar tracks in various environments. I chose a wide range of genres over 10 tracks to experiment with, and I'm glad I did. Great product!
