The Audio-Technica AT8491D is a drum mount designed to attach a gooseneck-equipped Audio-Technica ATM350a condenser microphone (available separately) to a drum's tension rod without obstructing access to tension adjustments. The spring-loaded mount provides shock resistance to reduce the transfer of vibration between the drum and the mic. The AT8491D's socket incorporates a locking screw that allows it to securely hold an AT8490 5" or AT8490L 9" gooseneck.

Q: 1. I notice a lot of details talking about a battery powered phantom source, but perhaps that this one is not the version that works with a battery? Does this have a battery phantom source, or is there another model that does? This is the only gooseneck that comes up under the battery powered search filter.

A: We use this mic with a wireless mic base unit that is part of System10 from Audio-Technica. The mic base is the phantom p/s. The combination provides good and clear service for our needs. We use it as a podium mic.

Q: 2. Will this microphone work with a Vixia G21?

A: Yes, it will.

Q: 3. Will this record audio only and does it write to the memory that's in your camera ?

A: This is a microphone. If your recorder has a mic in input then the sound this mic picks up will be recorded to your recorder, camera, or camcorder. I've tried a few and this one is a very capable microphone that will surpass the poor microphones normally found in cameras and camcorders. The unit uses a AA battery to handle the power needed and that is a big plus. It mic can operate as a mono shotgun mic, or a stereo mid-side mic with a built in decoder that makes mid-side work and gives a more spacious (more ambiance) sound than a mono shotgun. I own dozens of microphones and this is a worthy investment for those seeking better audio than the on board camera/camcorder mics can manage. It is well engineered and worth the investment, in my opinion. TM Soundview

Q: 5. Will this mic work with the Leica SL2S?

A: Yes. The Audio-Technica AT8024 Stereo/Mono Camera-Mount Microphone BH #AUAT8024 • MFR #AT8024is plug and play compatible with the Leica SL2-S Mirrorless Digital Camera.

Q: 6. is this a battery operated microphone?

A: There is no place to add a battery, but it does require extra power (phantom power) from the mixer to work.

Q: 7. Will this work with a Rode PSA-1 mic boom? I was hoping it was a little more substantial than some of the other low-end shock mounts.

A: This mount will connect to the Rode PSA1. It will require the 3/8 to 5/8'' adapter that was included with the PSA1. If you do not have that adapter, here's one you can purchase: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1083040-REG/auray_ad_combo_b_5_8_to_3_8.html.

Q: 8. I need to set up Shure SM57 mic on the top of upright piano using a small tripod mic stand (Ultimate Support JS-KD55 - Angle-Adjustable Kick Drum/Guitar Amp Mic Stand) to record piano playing. Would SM57 fit to this sockmount? And, would this shockmount fit to the stand mentioned above? Further more, would this set be ok for recording upright piano? I am just net very experienced with this, and my piano is not positioned for the usual boom stand. kind regards, Jon

A: The 57s diameter is probably too large for that mount.

Q: 9. I purchased one and it will not work. There is no sound. Thinking I had a wire broken that is not the case. I plug another mic into it and it worked. So I am thinking there is something wrong with the mic,? Help.

A: It is difficult to determine what the issue may be with the mic. As a note this mic does require phantom power. If you believe the mic is defective or would like to speak with a Representative who may be able to assist you please call us at 800-606-6969.

Q: 10. Will an AT987 fit in this mount?

A: Yes, the Audio-Technica AT897 Shotgun Microphone will fit in the Audio-Technica AT8410A Shock Mount.
