A prime medium telephoto distinguished by its bright design and sophisticated optics, the Canon EF-mount Milvus 135mm f/2 ZE from ZEISS is a Sonnar-type lens offering high sharpness, speed, and accurate contrast and color rendering. The optical design utilizes four anomalous partial dispersion glass elements to nearly eliminate chromatic aberrations and other distortions for clean, well-corrected imagery. A floating elements system is also used, for consistent performance throughout the focusing range, in order to achieve even sharpness and clarity. An enhanced ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating has also been applied to significantly reduce ghosting and lens flare for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in difficult lighting conditions.

The manual focus design is complemented by a rubberized focus ring for fine-tuned, precise control over your focus position. Additionally, Milvus-series lenses also feature an equally aesthetic and durable frosted, anodized metal lens-barrel surface along with a weather-sealed construction to protect against dust and moisture.

Short telephoto prime is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 216mm equivalent focal length.

Impressively bright f/2 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.

Sonnar optical concept suits the combination of a large maximum aperture and long focal length, and also contributes to notable sharpness, well-controlled flare, and high contrast.

Four anomalous partial dispersion elements are used to significantly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for increased clarity and color fidelity.

ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating has been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections and provide greater contrast and color fidelity.

Floating elements system helps to maintain consistent image quality throughout the entire focusing range, from 2.6' to infinity.

Manual focus design is benefitted by focusing and depth of field scales along with hard stops at both infinity and minimum focusing positions.

Weather-resistant construction includes internal seals to guard against dust and moisture as well as a blue sealing ring at the lens mount to protect the lens-camera interface.

All-metal lens barrel has a frosted, anodized surface along with a rubberized focusing ring for both durability and improved tactile control.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this Manual Focus?

A: As with all the ZEISS Milvus lenses, the Milvus 1.4/25 ZE lens is manual focus. The lens does couple to the camera, meta data is transferred, aperture is controlled electronically and focus confirmation is active.

Q: 2. I use it on a Nikon Z7 with the FTZ adapter and I don't get focus confirmation. Any suggestions?

A: Best bet with this would be to either use the zoom function to zoom in to check focus, or use the focus peaking mode.

Q: 3. Is there any noticeable focus breathing when shooting video ?

A: No, not really. However the canon version does not have a manual aperture and this can cause problems depending on what you are shooting.

Q: 4. What is the diameter of the focus ring? I would like to put a gear ring to use a follow focus, but I need to know the diameter to buy an exact ring. The diameter of the focus ring is the same as its previous version Distagon T * 15mm f / 2.8 ZE?

A: The diameter of the focus ring on this lens is 80mm or 3.15 inches. That information is listed on this spec sheet. https://bhpho.to/38vHqaL

Q: 5. Is it compatible with Sony A7s ii ?

A: The ZEISS ZE lenses are designed for Canon cameras using the EF mount. If you are in need of an ultra wide angle lens for the Sony A7SII camera, then we can recommend the ZEISS Batis 2.8/18 or the Loxia 2.8/21 - both of which feature a native E mount and are designed for the Sony FF mirrorless cameras. https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1243591-REG/zeiss_2136_691_batis_18mm_f_2_8_lens.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1243591-REG/zeiss_2136_691_batis_18mm_f_2_8_lens.html/ahttps://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1189220-REG/zeiss_2131_999_loxia_21mm_f_2_8_lens.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1189220-REG/zeiss_2131_999_loxia_21mm_f_2_8_lens.html/a

Q: 6. What is the main difference between the Milvus and the Zeiss Planar 50 1.4 ZF.2 ?

A: The most notable difference would be the Milvus lenses ability to de-click the aperture ring. This allows for silent adjustment making these lenses ideal for video.

Q: 7. Does the lens hood come off?

A: Yes, the hood is removeable.

Q: 8. I'm wondering whether to go for the Tamron 35mm 1.8 VC and benefit from its AF and VC or to get the Zeiss Milvus 35mm f2 distagon. I use the D800e and own the Nikon 24-70 f2.8. I am looking for a prime lens with this focal range, i.e. the 35mm, to use for street photography, and really don't want to carry the weight of the 24-70. I don't mind a manual lens and I am more inclined to get the Milvus, but it's also around 650g and I'm not sure if the manual focusing will stand in the way. So Tamron vs. The Milvus? Thanks. One more thing, if you think the Milvus is a better option, should it be Milvus or the Zeiss classic f2 zf2 diatagon?

A: Hi there,I am a big fan of the Milvus Zeiss Family. My latest purchase which is from B & H is the Milvus 35mm F2.0 which is used for portrait and street photography to me this is a gain for a lense that is tac sharp point to point. I have no regrets over my purchase and please allow me to put you at ease on the manual focusing which is fast and accurate as I am using the Nikon D810 to pair up with the Milvus 35mm f2.0. This lense is light and worth carrying around. My advice to you is to get the Milvus and not the Classic ZF2 Distagon because the Milvus are considered the next generation of new lenses produced by Zeiss with better coatings and newer technologies to reduce flare, ghost and also barrel distortion. The Bokeh produced by the 35mm f2.0 is fantastic. Last and not least the 35mm f2.0 is also weather seal. You will not regret buying a lense with so many positive comments with a plus.Laurence

Q: 9. How is the image quality compared to the Canon 50mm f/1.2L?

A: I had the Canon 50mm f1.2L and replaced it with the Zeiss which, to me, is clearly superior. The Canon 50mm is a good lens, especially when stopped down to 2.8 or smaller. The Zeiss however presents almost no chromatic aberration noticeable to me even wide open, and the images are crisp and sharp to the corners using my 5DSR. I shoot mostly landscape and night images so I don't miss the autofocus. Yes, the Zeiss is more expensive, but it is a lens that I expect to keep as long as I am able to shoot with it.

Q: 10. Will this lens allow Focus Peaking with a Canon EOS RP if I use a Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R?

A: Yes. You will have focus peaking on the Canon EOS RP when using this lens.
