It allows me to use a large flat panel monitor to watch movies stored on my laptop when traveling. Many laptops no longer have a HDMI or VGA output. Mine like many now only have a display port. This is a simple and cheap means to achieve a bridge to HDMI. The item is so small and affordable, that I intend to order another just in case I forget to pack it. 5
