Picks up much less background hum than my Yeti did and the sound is more consistent as well.

I love the sound of the SM7B (with the close-talk windscreen) and the Cloudlifter – although you need the Cloudlifter if you have a low noise studio and a nice pre amp. More natural tone than you get from other similarly priced broadcast mics.

I noticed a lot of podcasters and radio personalities use this mic, not to mention all the acclaims of notable musicians but I was still a little skeptical of it would sound sound much better than the Heil PR-40.

I’m not really an audiophile but I loved how my voice recording sounded compared to the Heil PR4. It is definitely a great dynamic mic.

I replaced my MXL770 with the Sm7b with the cloud lifter and now my voice booth is useless. I can just sit there behind my desk and record podcasts and voice overs. It pick up no sound apart from my voice. I am extremely happy with this microphone.

Title says it all, mic upholds it's legendary status for voice recordings. Unless your mixer can do 60db of clean gain, you will need a fethead/cloudlifter etc as many others have noted.

The flat-frequency response enhances the midrange and high frequencies that are associated with the human voice.

Improved rejection of electromagnetic hum—optimized for shielding against broadband interference emitted by computer monitors.

Internal air-suspension shock isolation virtually eliminates mechanical-noise transmission.

The detachable close-talk windscreen eliminates the need for any add-on protection against explosive breath sounds—even for close-up vocals or narration.

The classic cardioid pickup pattern is designed to reject off-axis audio, so you can sing or speak at a comfortable angle. And, it captures the sound with minimum coloration, isolating the signal source helps to reduce feedback issues.

Q: 3. Where is it made?

A: The Shure SM7B Vocal Microphone is made in Mexico.

Q: 4. Need a recommendation for a voice mic to use with an M BOX Mini currently using a SHURE PE 515, I also have a SHURE 545L which I have not tried. Or, if I get a Shure SM7B will I be able to use my Passport 150 Pro as a pre-amp for the M BOX Mini?

A: The Shure SM7B is very low in natural since its a dynamic mic it needs alot of gain from your M BOX asnd doing so will introduce hiss from the M BOX bringing noise level up. The best we can advice is to get a cloud lifter and this will eliminate and hiss giving you a 25db of a boost.

Q: 5. What is a CloudLifter?

A: Reggie, a CL-1 Cloudlifter is a mic activator that lets you get the best possible audio. It partners with your preamp in amplifying your mics' signal for clean, transparent recordings. If you have a Shure SM-7B mic, you most likely will need it because this type of mic does not have a strong sound level.

Q: 6. Does it come with stand

A: No , a stand is extra

Q: 7. Is there an affordable USB audio interface you'd recommend for using the SM7B to record with a MacBook Pro? Shure recommends at least 60 dB of gain, which means that a lot of USB audio interfaces won't cut it. I'll gladly spring for the mic, but don't want to spend a fortune just to be able to use it.

A: Dont use this mic to record to a computer. Buy a portable Digital Recorder such as the Tascam DR-100MK II and then after recording import the file into your Mac or PC.

Q: 8. Is this good for screams/yelling like heavy metal?

A: Yes, the sensitivity and gain range of the Shure SM7B Vocal Microphone make it a good option for loud vocal signals.

Q: 9. I have a Mix Pre3 preamp; will I need a Cloudlifter to increase gain (to avoid buzz), or will the Mix Pre3 be fine on its own with the SM7B?

A: The Sound Devices MixPre-3 II Audio Recorder pairs quiet Kashmir preamps with 70dB of gain range, making it one of the few devices that can be used with the Shure SM7B Vocal Microphone without the need for a Cloudlifter.

Q: 10. whats the best mic pre amp compressor to use ?

A: Preamp and compressor quality and sound is highly subjective. The SM7B seems to require a significant amount of gain for best results. The Grace M101 is a popular choice to pair with the SM7B and provides clean high gain. a href= http://bhpho.to/1wR5Lnf target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1wR5Lnf/a
