Hoya 49mm Linear Polarizer Filter

Hoya 49mm Linear Polarizer Filter
  • Product Code: ga362
  • Availability: In Stock

$56.70 $88.45

Helping to reduce reflections and glare, the 49mm Linear Polarizer Filter from Hoya filters out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. By filtering this light, a noticeable increase in the saturation of skies and foliage is possible, as well as the ability to produce clearer imagery when photographing in hazy conditions. The filter is constructed from optical glass and is mounted within a durable, lightweight aluminum ring that has a hard anodized finish to guard against wear.

A linear polarizer differs from a circular polarizer in that it does not support the use of a camera's autofocus or auto exposure functions; it is best suited for use with manual cameras, such as view cameras, that are not dependent on internal mechanisms to determine focus or metering settings.

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.

Polarizing filters arrange, and filter, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.

Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.

Optical glass construction maintains image clarity.

Aluminum filter ring is both lightweight and durable and features a hard anodized finish to guard against scratching and wear.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it rotate? Because when I use the compare tool to compare this filter to some other polarizer, in the "rotating" column this is listed as "not applicable".

A: Yes, the Hoya 77mm HRT Circular Polarizer UV Filter is a rotating circular polarizer filter, which you rotate to adjust the amount of polarization.

Q: 2. Is the Hoya HRT a thin profile filter?

A: No.

Q: 3. I'm buying a polarizer for manual focus lens, will focus peaking work with a linear polarizer? I'm using a Sony a6300.

A: Yes-focus peaking will work.

Q: 4. Can someone tell me the difference between this product and Tiffen's product?(a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/457543-REG/Tiffen_67LLPOL_67mm_Low_Light_Polarizing.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/457543-REG/Tiffen_67LLPOL_67mm_Low_Light_Polarizing.html/a)

A: The Hoya linear polarizing filter was designed for use on older film cameras - See the following description of a linear polarizing filter - (Two kinds of polarizing filters are the PL (Linear Polarizing) andPL-CIR (Circular Polarizing) filters which have the same effect ofreducing glare, however, there are differences in the way each worksin combination with your specific camera so it is important toresearch and choose the correct version of filter for your camera. Many of today's cameras use semi-silvered mirrors or prisms to splitthe light (a.k.a. beam) entering the viewfinder in order tocalculate exposure and focusing distance. PL filters can sometimesinteract with these light controlling devices to give unpredictableexposure or focusing. If your camera, whether auto or manual, isequipped with this kind of device, we recommend using a PL-CIR filter. Both types of filters allow you not only to remove unwantedreflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc., butalso filter out atmospheric haze enabling colors to become moresaturated and appear clearer with a much sharper contrast. These effects will prove to be invaluable to photographers at anylevel of interest.)

Q: 5. Does this remove refelxes in car glasses?//noelcom

A: Yes it will, but it may not be the correct filter if you are using a DSLR camera. How to select the correct Polarizing FilterTwo kinds of polarizing filters are the PL (Linear Polarizing) andPL-CIR (Circular Polarizing) filters which have the same effect ofreducing glare, however, there are differences in the way each worksin combination with your specific camera so it is important toresearch and choose the correct version of filter for your camera. Many of today's cameras use semi-silvered mirrors or prisms to splitthe light (a.k.a. beam) entering the viewfinder in order tocalculate exposure and focusing distance. Q: 6. Will this filter have a negative impact on autofocus in a mirrorless camera like the R5?

A: Linear polarizers usually have autofocus issues with DSLRs not mirrorless, so you shouldn't have a problem with the R5.

Q: 7. Why is this cheaper than the regular polarizer filter without UV ?

A: Hoya has multiple polarizing filters. Their price variates base on optical glas quality, weather seal, construction, and light transmission.

Q: 8. Is the Hoya HRT Circular Polarizer multi-coated?

A: The Hoya HRT Cir/Pol - UV combo filter is a non-coated filter.

Q: 9. Does this circular polarizing filter have antireflective coatings?

A: No, that filter is not multi-coated.

Q: 10. Can I screw on and attach a metal hood to this polarizer?

A: The, the front of this filter is threaded and can accept any other 49mm sized hood or filter.

I use two linear polarizers as a variable ND filter - works great for very long exposures. These filters transmit almost no light when crossed - a good test of the performance of a polarizer.

I bought the Hoya linear filter for my B camera, a canon HV40. I do a lot of outdoor filming. The footage in both SD and HD is very clear and the color I get with the filter is awesome. The footage is still really clear and without any quality loss that I can tell. I'm very happy with it.

The Hoya 52mm polarizer is exactly what I wanted at a fair price. Overall build and performance quality is more than acceptable and balanced. I'm rating the product a top-rating primarily because of the great quality:price ratio. Living in Hawaii, near the sea and moisture haze, a good quality polarizer always helps to get the most out of every shot. It's always great to get something that works that doesn't have to break your pocketbook or get overly hyped.

Used for whale watching from a headland into the Pacific Ocean. Very effective in cutting glare and letting me see through the glare.

I use this with great results on my Canon G10 for mid-day shots of landscapes and for macro work at the same time. The linear polarizer serves to deepen the landscape colors and to highlight the flowers and insects captured in the macro mode. Using iso 80, add 2 stops, for iso 100, add one stop. I normally do not use iso's above 200 with the Canon G10. The Canon G series + Hoya 58mm linear polarizer works for me when I'm hiking or whenever a larger DLSR isn't practical. B&H had the lowest online pricing ....Recommended on all counts.

Great polarizer, bought on a whim. My usual weapon of choice would be a Tiffen, but they were back-ordered and I was impatient. No complaints with the Hoya whatsoever and it was competitively priced. Does the job as well as any other brand and it is well-built, smooth action on the ring.
