Designed as a compact, walk-around prime, the silver XF 23mm f/2 R WR from FUJIFILM is a versatile 35mm-equivalent lens characterized by its f/2 maximum aperture that strikes and ideal balance between portability and speed. The optical design features two aspherical elements to reduce distortion and spherical aberrations in order to produce greater sharpness and accurate rendering. A Super EBC coating is also used to control flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in bright and backlit conditions. Complementing the optics is a stepping motor, along with an internal focusing design, which provides quick and especially quiet focusing performance. Additionally, the lens is weather-sealed to suit working in inclement conditions.

Prime wide-angle lens is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 35mm equivalent focal length.

Bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also offers greater control over depth of field.

Two aspherical elements limit distortion and spherical aberration in order to realize greater sharpness and accurate rendering.

Super EBC coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.

Stepping motor, along with an internal focusing design, affords fast and quiet autofocus performance that benefits both stills and video applications.

The lens body incorporates weather sealing to protect against dust and moisture, and to enable worry-free use in inclement conditions and freezing temperatures as low as 14°F.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Have any of you chosen this 23mm f2 over the 16 f2.8? or vice versa? What were some of your deciding factors for your decision?

A: 23mm on APS-C is equivalent to 35mm perfect for all around use , spatially for street photography

Q: 2. Does the kit with UV filter come with the lens hood?

A: Yes, the lens hood is included. As listed under the "In The Box" section under the Overview tab on our website, the following items are included with the purchase of the FUJIFILM XF 23mm f/2 R WR Lens with UV Filter Kit (Black), B&H # FU232BFK: In the Box XF 23mm f/2 R WR Lens (Black) 43mm Lens Cap Rear Lens Cap for FUJIFILM X-Mount Lenses Lens Hood Cloth Wrap Limited 1-Year Warranty Hoya - 43mm UV Haze NXT HMC Filter

Q: 3. This lens in the X-t20 is 35mm or 23mm?

A: Any lens is the focal length marked on it. But this has the same angle of view as a 35 lens on a FF sensor.

Q: 4. Can someone help compare this with the (older?) XF23/f1.4 R? Other than WR, is the f/1.4 sharper? Why is it more expensive.

A: As others have stated the sheer fact that the F1.4 is one stop faster is likely the biggest factor in price. Apparently any barrel distortion is corrected in the lens whereas its slower(F2) brother is corrected in post. However, the F2 seems to focus quicker for me and the smaller size makes it a perfect match for the Fuji system and a dream to work with when size is a factor. As I see it the only thing the F1.4 gives you that the other does not is F1.4.

Q: 5. A urgent question,can I use a 23 mm wr f2 on my xpro 1?.

A: Yes. My suggestion is to update the body and lens to the latest firmware

Q: 6. Is the manual focus a "wire focus"? I mean, what actually rotates the focusing mechanism: a motor or your hand?

A: This lens is focus by wire.

Q: 7. Are there click stops for aperture?

A: Yes - click stops at 1/3 f/stops.

Q: 8. Where is this lens made (2019) ?

A: COUNTRY OF ORIGIN PHILIPPINES

Q: 9. Will this work with the XT 200?

A: yes. it works with the XT200.

Q: 10. Weight of this lens?

A: Weight* (approx.)*excluding caps and hoods 180g

The FujiFilm 23mm lens is very accurate (you count bricks on buildings) and fast focusing. For street shooting or travel, it is an ideal lens. If it is not wide enough, you can always make a panorama. I like it very much.

The lens is well made and smooth to operate.
And of course, the image quality is very nice.
I like this lens a great deal - it's small, light weight and captures light very well.

I needed a fast lens for indoor industrial photography, many of my situations are low light. This lens has some quirks at f2, sometimes being soft at the edges, decent images overall. At f4 or especially 5.6 it  is excellent, very sharp. Using the autofocus it is very quick adjusting to changes in subject and light. I like the size and weight, important to me when working in tight conditions.

I also own and use the 50mm f/2 lens for professional portraiture / product work, but needed something to take travel photos with, landscapes, architecture, random food, portraits, objects, animals, etc. This is PERFECT for it. Couldn't be any better.

Focuses very fast. Small size. Feels substantial. Image quality is great (with my limited experience). Looks good on the camera. Could not be happier. Lens hood feels a bit odd design.
