The 100 x 100mm XS-Pro MRC-Nano 803 from B+W is a neutral density filter with an 8x filter factor that provides a 3-stop exposure reduction. It is compatible with a B+W 100mm Filter Holder and its 0.9 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you can control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes multiple layers of antireflection coating. This multiresistant coating (MRC) also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. The Nano coating associated with XS-Pro filters provides an additional eighth layer over the MRC, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

B+W filters are constructed from SCHOTT glass for increased optical clarity as well as color fidelity and measure 2.0mm thick.

This is a really nice filter. It rotates nice it has great image quality. Nothing negative to say about it except that I did use it on a cheap 11-18mm using a small filter adapter and I did get some darkening on the edges stopped down all the way with a crop sensor. I didn't get any lines or X in the image when used with 24-70 2.8 or longer. In the product info, it doesn't make it clear that the outside thread of the filter is a different size than the inside (camera side). The outside thread is 86mm while the camera side is 82. This is purely for function so I see the need. I would recommend purchasing a lens cap to fit it while its on the camera so you have something to protect it. 5

I bought it for my Schneider 28mm f/2.8 P. C. lens (Schneider recommends a B&W E-W filter that steps-up from 67mm to 82mm), this will cause vignetting so it goes back without taking picture 1 through it. Wish they had told me it has 72mm front threads, polarizing filter does go on by 2 full threads but it's probably intended just for a lens cap. 5

The quality of the glass is flawless and it doesn't cast any artifacts or colouring on the images except when flare is present. The quality is really good and its a great filter to have for video and photography. The only problem is the lens cap won't fit the filter, but definitely not a significant drawback. 5

This thing is one of the coolest photographic pieces of equipment I own. Buy for your largest lens and get stepping rings for everything else. You get a 5 ND filters in one! 5

I always stick with B & W filters. They are generally more expensive than other brands, but well worth the money. Very high quality, smooth operation and great optics. My first shoot with this filter was a waterfall in bright sun light. Canon 7D with EF-S 10-22. I adjusted the filter to the maximum density and was able to shoot slow enough to produce a beautiful silky water flow. I'm only sorry that I didn't buy this filter years ago. 5

Was forced to buy a new ND filter and instead of buying a two and three stop version I decided to go with the ND Vario MRC nano filter by B+W. I mostly use the NDs for water fall photography. Pros: I love the fact that I have to carry only one filter and the simplicity of dialing the desired stops. Cons: I was surprised by the thickness of the filer and that it does NOT have a front thread. It looks like B&W chose to enlarge the outer ring radius (greater than the mounting thread radius) to reduce the chance of vignetting. Because the radius of the outer filter ring is greater than mounting thread it made no sense to add an outer thread. On my 24-70 lens I do not notice any vignetting. 5

A polarizer and ND filter up to 5 1/3 stops on one filter!!! Awesome!! Perfect for bokeh during the day or shooting special stuff in the studio. Also great for pulling the blues in the sky. The interior is 86mm so get a cap that snaps inside to protect this filter. 5
