Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use a Westcott backdrop with the Savage Backdrop Travel Kit?

A: You can use this background but you would have to clamp it to the crossbar.

Q: 2. Could this double as a standard white backdrop when not using it to diffuse light through it?

A: You can use it as a background.

Q: 3. This is probably a dumb question but is this 10 feet wide or 20 feet wide? Thanks.

A: Technically it is 10 feet wide by 20 feet long. But one can use it the other way around if you have a cross bar that wide. If you do want to use it the other way you will need to use it with clips. The long side does not have a seam to slide a cross bar through.

Q: 4. how does this compare to vellum as far as transparency is concerned?

A: I've never used vellum but I have used this translum 2 ways. As a backdrop for headshots with a softbox placed directly behind and one in front to light my subjects. The backlight is just perfect for this and illuminates the subject perfectly. I've also used it with backlight only for maternity sillouhettes and it works great for that as well. It seems to be very durable but you do have to be careful not to crimp or bend it as it blanches out when pinched.

Q: 5. Has anyone used this professionally? Setting up, taking down. Does it wrinkle? Do you have more than one? The description says the color may vary between runs. How much does it vary?

A: This type of background is meant to be set up and left in a space, but it can rolled up without wrinkles. We have not experienced any variation in color among our current stock.

Q: 6. which kind of frame i have to attach to Savage Translum to make a diffuser?

A: I made several frames from aluminum strips. The frames are durable and lightweight.

Q: 7. Can you see through this black fabric? Or what's the opacity?

A: The Photoflex 10 x 20' Black Muslin Background has very little opacity.

Q: 8. Can anyone recommend a way to mount this to cinder block wall?

A: Direct duct tape and frame that out of the shot, or, if you need every millimeter, duct tape circles behind, across the back of the top.

Q: 9. How thick is this material?

A: This is the one you want for product photography. it won't show double reflection on your glossy subject. It means the reflection is uniformed. If the diffuser material is not strong enough. when you put softbox behind it. you will see double reflection on the glossy subject and that is no no.

Q: 10. How do you mount it on Paper Drive? It bows under the weight. After a week or so, it droops for couple inches. I was thinking, may be to add a crosspole for the support. Will it work?

A: I think using the pole inserted into the paper roll is the best way to do it. I don't think the paper roll is sturdy enough to be a long term solution to support the weight of the background as it will weaken in the middle and break as indicated by the slight bend in the middle when you suspect it on its own weight.
