Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this switch be used without a controller as an unmanaged switch out of the box or is controller based setup required?

A: Yes, the Ubiquiti Networks US-8-60W UniFi 8-Port Gigabit PoE Compliant Managed Switch BH #UBUS860W can be used unmanaged if you don't go through the controller setup or need any of the features.

Q: 2. I currently own the Ubiquiti Networks US-8-60W UniFi 8-Port Gigabit PoE Compliant Managed Switch (BH #UBUS860W MFR #US-8-60W). However, I need more ports. Would this be an appropriate upgrade to get access to more ports? What are the other differences between these two switches? Thanks!

A: Yes, the model you mentioned is an appropriate upgrade and can be added to your existing switch. The two models are mostly similar in functionality and features.

Q: 3. On the 8 port passive POE switch, could you power a POE device and a POE+ device?

A: The Ubiquiti Networks US-8 UniFi 8-Port Gigabit PoE Compliant Managed Switch can only supply PoE power via its single PoE passthough port.

Q: 4. Can the POE ports (5-8) have the POE turned off?

A: YES. Two ways:1) As others have mentioned, the ports are auto sensing, meaning you can plug in a non PoE device and it'll work without PoE and won't damage the device.2) From the Unifi Controller (I'm running v5.3.11), you can click on Devices | your switch | Ports | Edit (pencil) port | PoE | Off (the other option is PoE ).

Q: 5. how many poe ports does it have?

A: All 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports are auto-sensing PoE+ IEEE 802.3at/af ports by default or can be configured for 24V Passive PoE. The maximum wattage per port when in 802.3at/af mode is 34.2W. The maximum wattage per port when configured for 24V Passive PoE is 17W. The combined power draw of all 48 ports in any configuration combination may not exceed 436W (the switch itself consumes 64W of the 500W provided by the power supply for operation).

Q: 6. L2 OR L3?

A: The Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Switch US-48-500W 48-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed Switch with SFP+ is L2, but not L3.

Q: 7. With the cloud key running, do you have client visibility only to downstream clients or all clients on the subnet?

A: The cloud key has visibility of all the network it manages, not just a subnet or downstream.

Q: 8. Can I use poe ports to pwr the UAP-AC-PRO-E? If so how far can the cable be before there is a problem. The poe is for pwr and Data correct? The poe ports are 802.3af and that is what the AP says if needs.

A: Yes, the power rating has to be correct but yes!

Q: 9. Can this switch be configured as a DHCP server?

A: I am sorry but the Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Lite 16-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed Switch cannot be configured as a DHCP server.

Q: 10. I current own this switch but need a switch with more ports (I need 12 ports). Which model should I upgrade to?

A: You could simply add the same model to the current switch and network and double your ports. This is an example of a higher level switch with more ports: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1273932-REG/ubiquiti_networks_us_16_150w_us_unifi_switch_16port.html

Should have gotten one earlier. So nice not to mess with POE injectors. Using it to uplink to an Xfinity Modem, two UniFi Flex HD AP's and a Cloud Key. Easy to configure.

I like this for the price and for general POE use. Mount it on a wall or place it on a shelf. Great little switch general purpose.

I have this being powered from a UniFi US-16 150w POE switch and powering a UniFi AP-AC-Pro access point through the POE pass-through port.

These things are great, this is my 4th or 5th 8-port switch I've deployed. Zero problems on either of them. Haven't done any actual speed tests, but have encountered no unexpected performance. Will continue to purchase these. Ubiquiti is great!

This switch has been up and running for two weeks without problems. It was easy to install and configure with the unifi controller. You do not have to be an IT professional to deploy this thing in your home but having the unifi controller for your network devices really gives you an incentive to learn what you can truly do with these things, which is alot! A+++

This has been an excellent switch, and easily managed via the UniFi controller. The auto-sensing 802.3af ports (4 of them) are currently powering two access points and one Ubiquiti USW flex mini switch (USW-Flex-Mini), which is an awesome little 5 port switch in its own right. I'm able to set up separate port VLANS and other fun stuff on it. It's also a well built metal switch. It does get fairly hot, but not excessively, so you won't want to put it in a small, confined space without some air movement.

The US-8 is a very compact and light switch, but don't let that fool you. Some of it's features include the ability to be powered by POE (no need for a local power outlet at the switch), and the presence of a POE pass-through port to further extend power to an additional POE powered device. Beyond this, the switch is fully manageable, not a dumb switch like most consumer/small business switches. It is a wonderful and dependable switch on any network, but reaches it's full potential when part of a Ubiquiti Unifi gateway. This is a great little managed switch for the price. Actually great regardless of the price - buy it!

I use this item in a home network. I started getting more and more Ubiquiti products last year to replace older network equipment in my home network. This 8 port switch is powered by POE from my larger Ubiquiti 24 port POE switch. It allows me to remotely power cycle the switch via the Unifi Controller software and eliminates the need for a power supply for the switch. I like being able to monitor the network traffic on this managed switch. This 8 port switch has no fan so no noise, as expected it is warm to the touch but not really hot. I expect to get one or two more. I am totally satisfied

I don't need any PoE ports, but this is my first managed switch, and I like it. I could use more ports altogether, so when I upgrade to a 16- or 24-port model this will go on my desk, but until then this does the job.
