The Vision 100 pan & tilt head achieves the Perfect Counter Balance by means of an innovative and patented infinitely-variable spring mechanism. This allows the head to tilt through the full range of ±90° in perfect balance, eliminating a considerable amount of physical effort required by the operator to control the tilting action. Since the camera is perfectly balanced, it can be left at any angle - totally hands free - without having to lock the tilt brake. The variable counterbalance mechanism allows it to be used with a variety of lenses, batteries, viewfinders and on-camera lights.

For even faster setup, the Vision 100 offers a digital counterbalance readout, with repeatable balance setting. The display is activated by a simple press of a button and remains visible for 15 seconds.

The Vision 100 uses the Vinten TF (Thin Film) damping system, to provide consistent drag and constant performance in demanding conditions from -40°F to +140°F. The TF system offers total control, for precise movement and excellent camera control during the critical slow start-up of your shot. Providing seamless transition into Whip Pan and instant recovery to the original drag setting at the finish of the movement.

Calibrated with variable adjustment and a single turn rotation from fully On to Off, the drag knobs are backlit and are adjusted accordingly (depending on the lighting conditions) by a light sensor built into the digital readout. For easy viewing and detented to give a "dial-in feel", ensuring that settings are always maintained.

Unique design features allow fast setup - a must if you are continuously on the move. The leveling bowl has a double threaded screw shank, which allows the bowl lock to be tightened and released quickly. Very handy when you are constantly adjusting the bowl to level the camera (especially on uneven terrain).

Tough die-cast body ensures robustness, while quality design and construction provide a lifetime of precision.

Adjustable camera mounting plate with unique rubber grip strips holds the camera rock steady.

Built-in illuminated bubble for horizontal leveling, ensuring easy leveling even under unfavorable lighting conditions.

Load capacity of: 44.1 lb

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this head be converted to a flat base?

A: Yes it can. The Miller DS20 has a removable ball level stud for flat base mounting with a 3/8 thread.

Q: 2. What's the diameter of the round part of the tightening knob?

A: Since the E-Image 100mm Ball to Flat Base Adapter (B&H# EI100BF) has a triangular tie-down knob, you might mean the male thread on top (3/8"-16) or the base on top (which is designed to fit in a 100mm bowl). While there is no size given for the shaft extending up from the tie-down knob toward the flat base, a good estimate would be about an inch (2.54cm) in diameter.

Q: 3. Is this the correct way to mount an O'Connor 1040 that has the OConnor 08281 Mitchell Base attached -- allowing this to mount to any tripod with a 100mm half-ball base receiver?

A: No it is not. We recommend using the OConnor Ball Base for Ultimate 1030D Series Fluid Head (100mm) (BH #OC1001030 • MFR #08365). You will also need the OConnor Tie-Down for 08365 100mm Ball Base (B&H # OCC12371015 MFR # C1237-1015)

Q: 4. Will this work on a 100mm Miller tripod?

A: Yes the Acebil CH4 Fluid Head (100mm Ball) will fit on other 100mm tripods.

Q: 5. What is the minimum camera weight for effective counterbalance? I read that you need at least 10 pounds for this video head to balance properly. My rig is 9 pounds.

A: According to Miller the payload range of the DS-20 is 5.0-10.0kg (11.0-22.0lbs) You would have to have 2 more lbs. Otherwise you will be fighting the head as you move.

Q: 6. Is the tie down (bottom bowl clamp) thread on the blue5 M10, or 3/8 ?

A: We were able to determine it is not 3/8 .

Q: 7. Can this head be converted to a flat base?

A: Hi Jeffrey, Thank you for your enquiry. The Vision blue5 head can be converted to a flat base using Vinten's 75 to 100mm bowl adaptor and 100mm bowl to flat base adaptor, part numbers 3330-243 and 3330-16.

Q: 8. Can you remove the half bowl, to mount this to a flat base?

A: Sorry, no, you are not able to remove the ball base on this video head. There are methods of adapting it however. Please see the following suggestions. The Manfrotto Video Head Bowl Adapter offers no leveling but is rock solid, the ikan Hi-Hat Riser offers some leveling and the Alan Gordon Hi-Hat Support I recommend mounting to a board or other support immediately for it is not stable enough for camera use on it's own. The Plywood Mounting Board would be excellent for this purpose. (The mounting board image below is incorrect.)

Q: 9. Is the base plate Manfrotto 501PL compatible?

A: It will not match the 501PL plate.

Q: 10. How much weight can this head handle?

A: The Vision blue5 has a capacity of 12.1 - 26.5 lb at 100mm center of gravity.

I've always liked Vinten tripods and heads, and this new Vision Blue is one more to like. It's solidly built, pans and tilts smoothly and it is easy to achieve balance. This head is a perfect match for our Panasonic HMC 150 and HPX 170 camcorders - and I feel it would comfortably support a larger-form camera as well. And as a plus, there's the price: This head performs like a much more expensive one.

I've owned this head and tripod for a few years now. It's very solid, and about as smooth as any fluid head could be. I've owned others that cost about half or 2/3 as much, but not as good. I've used it in all weather; desert sand and heat, rain, snow, temps down to -30f, wind chills as low as -45. It hasn't skipped a beat. One minor thing... for some reason the pan bar can slip back into the rosette clamp a bit at times. You just have to loosen the clamp, turn and push the bar back in, and re-clamp. Definitely does not affect the operation, so all 5 stars is what I give it.

Worth every penny. This is by far the best Video head I have ever used. Side loading, perfect balance. Buttery smooth pan and tilts.

Man am I blown away at how great this head is! Vinten's Perfet Balance system really does work as intended and is a real joy to use. It's super easy to rebalance after a lens change and takes no time at all. I've never used a properly counterbalanced head until now...what was I waiting for? Even with a roughly 600mm lens I'm able to attain perfectly smooth, controlled pans with minimal, if any backlash. I doubt tracking people or animals with a telephoto lens would be an issue at all. Just make sure you have a solid tripod! All and all I'm extremely happy with this head and it's sure to last me a very very long time.

I've had this head for over twenty years. Sorry B&H but it wasn't purchased from you, although all the other Vinten products I have were bought from you. Why is this head the only one in the Vinten range with the extraordinary TF drag design? All their other general use heads have LF drag, which is pretty much the same as everyone else has used from the days when Robert Miller patented his viscosity drag design. I now have a couple of the 75mm bowl Vision Blue heads on my lovely Flowtech legs which are very good, but they don't perform anywhere near as precisely and smoothly as my decades old Vision 100. The only way this head could be improved would be to have the amazing new Sachtler Aktiv bowl adjustment system. Come on Vinten/Vitec, you own just about every tripod brand going anyway. Why can't you combine this clever Sachtler design with the best fluid head on the market? Is brand separation that important to you? Be like ARRI, not like Rupert.

A true broadcast quality ENG fluid head.... as smooth and strong as they come. Nothing can beat or surpass it in tilt/pan movement or build quality.
