The Vantage Motorized Pan/Tilt Head from Vinten is a compact, flexible robotic head designed for lighter video cameras. The Vantage head enables shooters to choose the most suitable camera and lens for their production, rather than being restricted to the limits of a single PTZ camera. Since the camera being used with the Vantage can be swapped out as needed, this head can serve to future-proof your PTZ studio setup. The Vantage features continuously variable speed control over pan, tilt, and zoom axes. Weighing just under 5 pounds, it has a payload capacity of 10 pounds, and is compatible with a range of camcorders and servo zooms.

Use the Vantage head with the optional Vinten µVRC Robotic Controller (not included) for smooth, programmed, joystick-controlled moves. Compatible with existing HD-VRC control systems as well, the Vantage sports Serial, Ethernet, LANC, and Genlock interfaces. This head has a pan range of 355°, tilting from +/- 90°, and a pan/tilt speed of 0.2 to 60°/second. For 360° production productions, the Vantage can provide tracking data to interface with VR systems.

The Vantage head's tally light is a boon for live productions, and its bubble level enables accurate positioning. This pan/tilt head has a low 24W power consumption, suiting it to battery-operated location use. Mount the Vantage to a tripod or other support using its flat base, or combine the head with a 75mm ball adapter (available separately).

Q: 1. It looks like it requires a cable for each motor. Are there extension cables available?

A: Varizoom offers these extension cables. 10'-VariZoom VZ-EXTL10 Extension Cable B&H # VAVZEXTL10 20'-VariZoom VZ-EXTL20 Extension Cable B&H # VAVZEXTL2050'-VariZoom VZ-EXTL50 Extension Cable B&H # VAVZEXTL50100'-VariZoom VZEXTL100 100' LANC Extension Cable B&H # VAVZEXTL100

Q: 2. Can this unit be adapter to a wireless controller or is there a next step up that would not brak the bank?

A: I would think that it would take quite a bit of work to make it work wirelessly. There are 2 cables that it uses. One for the pan motor & the other for the tilt motor. They send a varying voltage to the motors to control the speed they move the cameras.

Q: 3. can i mount a panasonic ag-ux180 4k professional camcorder to this vid pro?

A: Yes you can use the Panasonic AG-UX180 4K Professional Camcorder with the Vidpro Motorized Pan & Tilt Gimbal Head.

Q: 4. Is the tripod plate on this head by chance compatible with the RH25D or RH45D Libec Heads? Or Vice Versa?

A: There are no reports of that being possible. Hopefully, someone has these two heads and can test them.

Q: 5. Can this be used on a jib crane

A: Yes, this has both 3/8"-16 and 1/4"-20 threads on the bottom which will allow it to be mounted on to something like a jib.

Q: 6. What are the key differences between this and the FH-145 S2?

A: The S1 has one drag level with settings, The S2 has a total of three levels with settings.

Q: 7. Is this a wireless remote? If not is there a way to set up a wireless remote.

A: No, it uses a wired remote and we have not come across any options for converting this to a wireless system.

Q: 8. Can you remove the half bowl, to mount this to a flat base?

A: Sorry, no, you are not able to remove the ball base on this video head. There are methods of adapting it however. Please see the following suggestions. The Manfrotto Video Head Bowl Adapter offers no leveling but is rock solid, the ikan Hi-Hat Riser offers some leveling and the Alan Gordon Hi-Hat Support I recommend mounting to a board or other support immediately for it is not stable enough for camera use on it's own. The Plywood Mounting Board would be excellent for this purpose. (The mounting board image below is incorrect.)

Q: 9. Will I be able to use this head if i connect the Canon RC-V100 Remote Controller to a C300 Mk II? in other words is there any other option to connect this head to the camera?

A: The C300 Mark II only has a single LANC input. You should be able to have the C300 Mark II on the Vantage and also be connected to the RC-V100. However you will only be able to control the camera itself through one controller.

Q: 10. Is this compatible with the Proaim Heavy-Duty Mitchell Base Tripod Legs?

A: Yes. Both the tripod and the Vinten V3996-0001 Vector 950 Head will support the Mitchell flat base mount.

Though bigger and heavier than I thought it was going to be (and beefier isn't necessarilyworse), I am impressed just how smooth the panning and tilting are. I bought the AC adaptor and a 50' extension cable for the remote as well, which together makes this perfect for my use, which is for live concert shooting. Not needing a camera operator on stage allows me to mount a camera pretty much anywhere, and to remotely framemy shots right from our FOH video mixer position to get varying up close and personal views of the drummer or keyboardist without being obtrusive. So far so good... I haven't run it in automatic mode yet, but it seems like I'll likely find a use for that feature too. A bargain at 100 bucks!
