The Universal L-Bracket (Flip-Lock) from Arca-Swiss is an adjustable L-bracket designed to work with most DSLR, mirrorless, and compact cameras.

The primary function of any L-bracket is to allow the users to quickly and easily transition their camera from landscape to portrait orientation without having to tilt the camera head into portrait position. This function gives the user a number of advantages including no loss of height, maintaining their camera's center of gravity, and pivoting their camera from a single position in portrait orientation - a feature valued most when taking panoramic photographs.

This L-bracket has been designed specifically for universal use with most camera models and features a built-in quick release for quick mounting and dismounting. Like many L-brackets, this features Arca-type dovetail plates on both the vertical and horizontal axis - but unlike most brackets, it also features a flip-lock quick release clamp on the horizontal axis, requiring the camera to already be mounted to an Arca-type plate. This camera plate is not included with the bracket and must be purchased separately.

The bracket also features a length adjustment lock which allows the user to lengthen or shorten the bracket depending on the size of the mounted camera body. The mounting plate also features two standard safety stops, a bubble level, and is designed to work with standard Arca-type plates and clamps.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the top plate removable?

A: The quick-release base can be removed on the Arca-Swiss Monoball Z1 dp with Flip-Lock Quick Release to reveal a 3/8" threaded socket on the base mount.

Q: 2. Does it come with the quick release plate?

A: Mine did not. I believe different cameras need different plates.

Q: 3. Can the vertical plate be locked up high enough to center a battery gripped camera over a tripod head clamp in portrait mode?

A: The Arca-Swiss L-Bracket MonoballFix Universal is a very good L plate and universal but it might not work with a grip in vertical position. It will depend on the camera and grip size.

Q: 4. Can the Arca part of the clamps be rotated 90 degrees so the Arca grooves are in line with the bracket instead of at right angle to it?

A: Unfortunately, the Arca dovetail portion of the Arca Swiss L-Bracket MonoballFix Universal cannot be rotated 90°.

Q: 5. Can the clamp be turned 90 degrees from the picture shown so that the camera slides in from the side instead of back to front? Reason I'm asking is I have a Tether block quick release plate on my camera that goes the length of the camera. Thanks

A: Sorry, but we would say that we cannot see any way that the clamp is movable to do what you wish.

Q: 6. Will this fit on Fuji XT2 with or without battery grip?

A: While we cannot test this combination, we see no reason it will not work very well for that camera with or without the grip.

Q: 7. Will this work with the M11 handgrip which has an Arca Swiss plate built into it?

A: Yes, this Arca Swiss Monoball Z1 + Single Pan Flip Lock Head can work with the Leica M11 Handgrip which is Arca compatible.

Q: 8. Hi, I'm interested in buying the Arca-Swiss Monoball Z1 sp with Quick Release #801104. I would like to know what is the best plate for a Canon 5D MK III without a battery grip? Also, which plate would I need for a canon 70-300mmm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM? Thank you.

A: Hi, these plates will cover all your needs.

Q: 9. Is this Z1+?

A: The Z1G is the plus model: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1295156-REG/arca_swiss_monoball_z1g_single_pan.html https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1029543-REG/arca_swiss_801123_monoball_classic_z1_double.html

Q: 10. I have bought a Arca-Swiss Monoball Z1 sp with Quick Release Flip-lock , Can i change the Quick Release from Flip-lock to Kirk QRC-3 Quick Release Clamp for Arca-Type Plates - 3 Base?As i am having problem adjusting the inter screw every time the plate changes. i.e. if i mount the Novoflex Castel-Q Focusing Rack - with Arca-Type Quick Release i have to adjust the screw so that it locks properly and after that when if i want to directly mount my camera which has a wimberley p-5, again i have to adjust it to lack properly.

A: There appears to be a screw at the top of the Monoball that allows you to remove the clamp, but, in my experience that has never been the easiest or cheapest way to modify your tripod head. I would suggest clamping another clamp to the head. such as the Benro PC1 Panning Base B&H # BEPC1 MFR # PC1. It will give you additional flexibility.

This thing is incredible! I've been using it in the last 2 years without any issue. I used it in the snow, sand, beach, desert, no issue whatsoever! Just require some light dusting with a clean cloth and that is it. Supporting my Canon 1DS MK3 and the 70-200mm F2.8L with no issue. A pleasure to use since the ball moves like butter compared to another famous brand that my brother bought, it is no comparison. The same can be said about my Canon 1DS MK3. Wish all things were made with this kind of quality, but you get what you pay more, they're expensive.

Works very good with heavy short lenses and with my SAL70400 (Sony G lens 70-400 mm). Extremely smooth movement of the ball head and the break knob. It is very satisfying and fun to work with.

This ballhead replaced the Markins Q2 that is also a solid built one. The Z1 sp allows me to reverse the legs of the tripod for compactness and ease to carry in a checked bag for airline travel. Also the double security flip-lock design offers additional assurance that it will not come open accidentally. Another advantage is that the width of the of the clamp can be easily adjusted by a cogged wheel by a finger tip; you need a screw driver to do the same adjustment for the Markins Q20.

Great ballhead, smooth in operation and secure in locking. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. As stated in other reviews, familiarize yourself with instructions for the Quick Release before using.

This head is fabulous. Very stable. Very smooth. Solidly built. Some have mentioned that they did not like the quick release flip lock lever's safety switch. However, I find it comforting to know that you can't accidentally snag the flip lock lever and release the plate. Once you're used to sliding the tiny switch, it is just as fast and easy to operate as any other quick release flip lock, IMHO. The head is VERY stable and the controls are simple, functional and reliable. My only minor complaint is the pan adjustment knob's very close proximity to the main adjustment knob. It is nice to have them close, I'm just not sure I would've put them that close. Still deserves five stars as far as I'm concerned.
