The GS5313LGS Geared Center Column from Gitzo is an aluminum center column designed for use with series 5 Systematic tripods. The column may be installed by removing the tripod's base plate, inserting the center column, and locking the column in place.

The primary feature of the GS5313LGS is its geared mechanism, which allows the user to make incremental vertical adjustments with the use of an integrated cranking handle. When the desired height is reached the user may then use the disc-lock equipped central collar to lock the column in place.

The column features a native height of 36.2" which includes 29.5" of travel distance from maximum height to minimum height. It weighs 4.3 lb, a manageable weight which compliments its professional quality and durability.

Do not usually use any tripods with a center column due to rigidity concerns, but this one coupled with the series 5 tripod is as solid as a rock. However, have not used it raised to its full extend. mainly used to tweak that final height adjustment a few inches. 5

I intentionally bought a tripod without a center column, but it is my all-purpose tripod and I missed the versatility of a center column more than I ever thought I would. A worthy addition to the Systematic 5 tripod. Obviates the need to fiddle with the tripod legs until you get it right. Adds some height to your tripod in the event that you'd need it. Well made, looks like it was made for the tripod and was. Action is smooth, finish is fine. Does what it was designed to do with no extraneous frills. 5

Absolutely amazing quality, you get what you pay for. Gitzo are the best manufacturers of professional camera tripods. I have 2 Gitzo tripods now a large 5 series systematic and a small compact travel version. I will never need another in my life as these are simply amazing and.very tough. The center colume gains the extra height to reach over fences for motorsport photography. 5

I purchased this to go with my GT5543LS tripod and GH4383LR ball head. The build quality is exceptional. It is incredibly light. The Gitzo ball head mounts perfectly on it and there is a set screw to keep it in place. Truly a must have for Series 5 tripods. 5

For my trusty time tested on 35 year old heavy duty Gitzo Tripod. The cranking mechanism finally broke after extremely heavy use, as a still life photographer, my camera lives on that tripod. I did not expect to find an EXACT DUPLICATE PART MADE IN EXACTLY THE SAME WAY all these years later. But I did, and I am grateful. This has not been modified or cheapened in the manufacturing process in all this time, and it fit perfectly to the millimeter. Pricey to be sure, but a new rock - I mean tripod - of this caliber and weight cost over a grand, less the head. Gitzo actually made a tripod to last a lifetime. So if you have a Gitzo, and you want to keep it going, this replacement part is a blessing from God. 5

While a Center Column is supposedly one more thing that can vibrate, the convenience of making small adjustments in the height of the rig outweigh this minuscule drop in stability. 5
