The GSLVLS Leveling Base from Gitzo is a basic leveling accessory designed for use with the Systematic series of tripods.

Ideal for flat base tripod heads, the GSLVLS is designed to help users level a standard tripod or fluid head in order to maintain level horizons and reduce time-consuming post processing corrections. Use of the leveling base requires a 75mm ball adapter which is available for all series 3, 4, & 5 Systematic tripod legs.

The leveling base features a lightweight aluminum construction which adds a negligible 0.8 lb to your existing tripod setup. The standard 3/8"-16 top mounting screw will accommodate most tripod heads and is connected to a tightening lever to secure the head and prevent unwanted twisting.

Q: 1. I wish to add this item to my GT3530LS tripod. What size hex key do I need to remove and replace top plate?

A: With the extensive research I have done, the bolt is a torx screw and needs a T25 torx bit or you can purchase a set that includes a T25.

Q: 2. will this fit Gitzo 1548 MK II?

A: The Gitzo GS5313GS Geared Center Column for Series 5 Systematic Tripods is not compatible with the Gitzo 1548 MK II tripod. Q: 7. Does anyone know the load capacity (in pounds) of this Gitzo leveling base? I haven't been able to track down that specification (or find the user manual) online. Thanks in advance.

A: It is designed for use with series 3, 4, and 5 Systematic tripod legs. Refer to the manual for the tripod to find the load capacity.

Q: 8. Will the GSLVLS fit on an older Gitzo 3541 LS or 5541LS tripods ?

A: This should fit just fine for the 3 series however for the 5 series you will need a bowl adapter.

Q: 9. What is the lifting weight capacity rating for this center column when mounted on a Gitzo series 5 long carbon fibre tripod?

A: The load capacity for this column is 55 lbs.

Q: 10. Does this column allows vertical positioning without movement/rotation in the horizontal plane? Is the composition as viewed in the camera viewfinder affected in the horizontal direction when the crank is rotated? I plan to use the column with a systematic 3 tripod for product photography (but not macro), the idea would be to adjust the height without having to have to re-compose or re-focus afterward.

A: The Gitzo GS3313GS Geared Center Column for Series 3 and 4 Systematic Tripods is a geared column and moves up and down. It does not move side to side horizontally.

I have a Gitzo GT 3543 LS tripod. What better compliment in terms of a leveling plate than to add a Gitzo leveling plate. This leveling plate is high-quality at a fair price with an incredible build and relatively lightweight. I'd highly recommend it.

Sure saves a lot of time and frustration when trying to level my Gitzo Tripod. Instead of adjusting each leg individually, all I do now is loosen the Leveling Base, then center the round spirit level. It takes about fifteen seconds, and I'm done.
Oh, and don't forget to order the bowl head adapter.

It's very easy to install, easy to use, and does its job superbly. Makes my Gitzo GT3533S VERY easy to level. :-)

This is an excellent leveling base. The tightening knob is very easy to set and get a good tight grip, even with a heavy load. I haven’t had any issues with coming loose and it’s very easy to set your level. It easily spins to get the spirit level within clear view. Something I couldn’t find info about when I purchased this base is the lever that sticks out. This is to support the 3/8” mounting screw to tighten against the ball head or gimbal. Brilliant. I was worried it would stick out too far and snag but I hasn’t been a problem. The quality is top notch as all other Gitzo products. Mates nicely with the 75mm Systematic base. Highly recommended. Worth the extra bucks.

I was looking for something that offered some stability and control for a Leica S camera attached to a bellows on a Novoflex rail. Even though this does not give me all of the various controls that my RRS BH55 head, it puts all of that weight and length onto the wide flat surface of this leveling base. I can see that there will be no lens drop while making large focus stacks. This is especially true, because of the 3/8 tripod screw that secures the rail to the rubber surface of the base using the arm that pulls the screw down into the base.

The newer model does not twist when tightening. Its cup provides more movement to adjust to greater angles from an uneven tripod.

I have tried other leveling bases, but this is the best that I have used. The only downside is it's heavy, but very well built. I should never have to buy another one.

In the past I used less sturdy leveling bases on my sturdy tripod (GT3543LS) but the weakest link breaks the chain. This leveling base does the job and I can use it with heavier equipment.
I very much recommend this leveling base if you are looking for top stability of your tripod system.
