Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can anyone recommend a good transport for these cases???

A: If holding two of these stands, the Sachtler C-Stand Bag (Black) B&H # SACSTANDB would be suitable. Please see the image below for reference.

Q: 2. I want to attach to the boom arm: Godox AD600Pro with 100CM Octagonal. Will it work ? Also has anyone tried this ? Secondly I want to know if there is a weight limit to attach to Boom arm ?

A: The stand has a load capacity of 22lbs. That would include the light, softbox, grip arm and counterweight. If you use a collar pin https://bhpho.to/33viUF5, counter weight and sand bag it can work.

Q: 3. Do these have plastic knobs or metal?

A: Steel knobs. The handles come with rubberized covers you can remove or replace when they wear out.

Q: 4. What else would I need to purchase to mount a soft box made for speed lights, on this C-stand?

A: If your speedlite softbox has an umbrella style fitting then you can use an umbrella adapter on the boom arm. I have used this setup successfully

Q: 5. Can I mount my 5d with 24-105 lens in this stand to get 90 degree shot.or please suggest me best alternate with all accessories for stable shot of 90 degree.

A: When doing this I supported the free end of the boom (c-stand arm) with either another c stand or a light stand. I strongly agree with the suggestion about wireless or wired tripper. In a pinch I once gaffer-taped the camera to the boom arm.

Q: 6. what's the diameter of the arm? because i have an adapter to that with size 5/8 hole to fit a top stud / c-stand arm...

A: Hi,I have not received the order yet and because of that I can answer your question.BWEyfinnur

Q: 7. How do I attach a Profoto head to this setup? Do I need another piece?

A: Avenger E650 6 inch baby pin with collar...I have two profoto B1 myself

Q: 8. Has anyone been able to have hands-on experience with the Avenger vs Matthews C-stands? Is one better made than the other? I heard that the Matthews design has better grip on arms and knuckles? I'm trying to figure out which brand I would like to invest in for C-stands mini booms and combo stands

A: There are some advantages to both. I own and operate a lighting and grip rental house, and have been a working grip for about 15 years. Here's my experiencesMatthews: -Lighter weight overall (not necessarily a plus. Having a heavier c-stand can be very very helpful).-somewhat thinner plating. The legs tend to get nicks and rust spots a bit sooner.-better heads and arms. The design of the heads is different. Matthews has grooved jaws, which do a better job of keeping things from spinning. They have one less part in the locking mechanics on the heads, and break less often.Avenger: heavier, better plating. Heads are more prone to break. Older avenger heads were truly crappy, but sometime around 5-7 years ago they changed their head mechanics, and they work better now. They still feel soft compared to Matthews, but they are far better than they used to be.At our shop we have Avenger c-stands exclusively, but we own additional heads and arms from Matthews for rigging applications. We prefer Matthews junior grip heads as well.

Q: 9. What transport case is recommended for these

A: A case like the Hakuba PSTC 400 Pro Series Light Stand, B&H # HAPSTC400 would be suitable to hold the riser, base and grip arm of this stand. Please see the image below.

Q: 10. I have a Profoto B1 which weighs in at 6.7lbs. I want to put a beauty dish on it, maybe even a large softbox and use the arm to put it over the camera and straight on to the model. I suppose clamshell lighting comes to mind but I don't want to shoot around the stand. 1) Would this hold that weight or is a different configuration needed? 2) What other attachments are needed to connect an expensive light to it, and to be safe? Thank you for your time.

A: The answer is YES, I have two B1 profoto with Reflectors and softboxes as well. These stands are strong...but you will need sand bages just to protect your equipment and your clients during a photo-shoot.

I'm a novice, starting an online tutorial business. My film pro friend likes Avenger C-stands best. He lent me his to try and I was amazed at the sturdiness and versatility. I bought an identical stand, and now have another (with a sliding leg) on the way.

I am buying most of my gear from B & H. They have been able to ship me quality items at similar cost to other online business. I'm trying to give Amazon less business because I don't like their business practices. I tried a couple of other video gear online stores and found them unacceptable for various reasons.

B & H has sent my packages quickly (NYC to Seattle) and was gracious when I had to return a video card that didn't work. Another box was damaged in shipment but I returned it without problem.

I'm thinking that I may need a third stand, and maybe a low boy light stand. They will probably be Avengers and I will most likely be getting them from B & H.

(I was not paid nor compensated in any way for this review.)

These are expensive, but for a solid black c-stand, these are the best. The actual metal itself is black, almost like a kind of chroming process -- it's not black paint that will chip off. Heard a lot about chrome c-stands because they hide wear and tear better, but we prefer black because they do a better job of hiding while on location, and no glare from natural light etc. We have an ancient black avenger c-stand and it has a few scratches here and there, but overall, still looks great. The built quality is smart, functional, and rugged. Love the turtle base, will only buy those from now on. Have zero concerns about this c-stand, and this brand holds it's value well. A good investment. There are other great c-stands out there, i.e. Matthews, which some people prefer over Avenger and is a little cheaper, but Avenger is the go-to for black colored c-stands, so we paid extra for that.

The gold standard of c-stands. Removable base is a MUST for a location kit. What more can I say? 5 stars all the way!

There are never enough of these things on set. Avenger and Matthews are the best in the biz for a reason, buy one once and never look back, well buy a bunch of them and then never look back.

This is the second Avenger C-stand/grip arm combo I have purchased, this one for on-location shoots so I don't have to break down and lug the one I now can have permanently in the studio. I use it mainly for a hair light, fitted with a Profoto B1X head and gridded beauty dish. The arm (with a sandbag counterweight at the other end of the arm) is long enough so the hair light can extend and come almost from straight above my subject.

This is a very sturdy stand for my studio strobes. Even on the boom it holds my soft box or beauty dish securely. I do wish the ends of the boom arm had screws on them. The boom simply ends and you either have to put the light on the clamp with a small extender, or screw it onto the smooth end of the arm itself. So long as everything stays tight all is good, but I do worry about using the boom at a downward angle and the light loosening then slipping off. It hasn't happened, and I put it on tight, but I would have preferred screw on adapters or a detent at the end for the mounting screw to go into, to hold the light more securely.

I've seen Avengers stands with 10 years of heavy lifting and still going strong which is why this brand was a no brainer. They are heavier than some other brands, but I personally like that as I don't worry about tipping when a smaller payload is on top. They also stack well in the back of a vehicle. Black is a huge plus.
