This 58mm Marumi DHG Solid NDSolar Eclipse Filter provides a 16.5-stop exposure reduction. Its 5.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image that is effective for solar eclipse photography. You can also use it to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you can control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface has nine multiple layers of antireflection coating. This Digital High Grade (DHG) coating also offers greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters.

Constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity, it features a durable yet lightweight aluminum-alloy filter ring.

Designed specifically for photography applications, it is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this filter safe for photographing a Solar Eclipse?

A: The Haida NanoPro ND5.0 Filter (95mm, 16.5 Stop) is unsafe for photographing a Solar Eclipse. The filter does not block UV or IR light. Instead, get the MrStarGuy 95mm Thread-in White-Light Solar Filter, BH #STSG95MMSOL.

Q: 2. Is it Course thread?

A: The Haida NanoPro Solar Neutral Density Filter (95mm, 20-Stop) has a standard thread. It is not coarse.

Q: 3. Is this safe to use on my DSLR for solar eclipses? Concerned about the sensor being damaged.

A: Yes, the Haida NanoPro Solar Neutral Density Filter (67mm, 20-Stop) is designed for Solar Photography.

Q: 4. I have Nikon 16-35mm len. I heard someone indicated that this len may cause flare. Can I attach my 77mm len hood to my wide-angle len first and then attach this ND len on the wide-angle len???

A: Not really. The Eclipse should be attached to the Wide Angle lens and then attach the Fader Hood. The hood should reduce the chance of flare.

Q: 5. will this fit the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM Zoom Lens for Canon DSLRs with APS-C Sensors?

A: YES IT WILL FIT.

Q: 6. Does this item have uv/ir filtering?

A: The Haida NanoPro Solar Neutral Density Filter (95mm, 20-Stop) does not block UV and IR light. Instead, get the MrStarGuy 95mm Thread-in White-Light Solar Filter, BH #STSG95MMSOL. This filter blocks UV and IR light.

Q: 7. Are Minimal = 2 stops and Max = 8 stops? How do I read the marks on the ring to know 2/4/8 stops?

A: When I am using the Eclipse I never worry about what stop I am using. What difference does it make? All I am interested in doing is getting it dark enough to be able to slow down my shutter speed so that I can get the effect I want. I never have to change filters if the 2 stop or 6 stop isn't enough, I just rotate the filter. Don't think about what number it is just use the the darkness you need. Hope this helps.

Q: 8. Does this ND fader have circular or linear polarizing?

A: Hello David, we have used Circular Polarisers inside the ND Fader.

Q: 9. I've got 3 Canon lenses each with 67mm on the filter end. Does it make any sense to buy 77mm Eclipse filter and a step-up ring 67-77 (just to cover the range of lenses that I maybe will plan to buy someday) ? I'm very afraid I can get vignetting with this setup because I often shoot with wide-angle (10-18mm focal length, APS-C). Or maybe the right way is to take 67mm model of Eclipse?

A: I purchased one Eclipse Variable ND filter and step up rings to use with my Nikkor lensesand have found it to be a good choice. Vignetting is not a problem for me and I have been pleased with the results. Especially in motion film work.

Q: 10. Can I use it for Solar photography directly for Oct 2023?

A: The Haida NanoPro Solar Neutral Density Filter (82mm, 20-Stop) is safe for the camera, but not for viewing by a person. Always use an approved ISO 12312-2 certified solar filter when observing the Sun through optics or cameras.

The Solar Eclipse Filter works well and has allowed me to photograph what before was unphotographable. It took some time playing around with the exposure and focus to figure out how to get a sharply focused and properly exposed image of the sun, but once I did it was very satisfying (see attached). Unfortunately there was nothing particularly interesting happening on our closest start the day I got the filter, but as soon is there are sunspots or an eclipse I'm ready to capture the image.

Filter was clear and consistent ND across entire area. Got excellent pics of eclipse with decent telephoto. A bit pricy but worth it for quality.

Needed solar filter to capture solar eclipse. I chose this one from B&H because of their reputation and I was not disappointed. Great filter and I captured great photos.

I ordered this filter a few days before the eclipse, B&H had it at my front door in a day and a half ….. outstanding! As far as the filter, I had never used one before and didn’t really know what to expect. I’m a very amateur photographer, but the results were amazing! Great product and great service by B&H as usual!

Filter worked great. Easily attached to my Canon RF 100-500mm lens, photos were sharp and even with the filter on, my Canon R6 AF locked on no problem. Note, photos recolonized using Lightroom Classic.
