Q: 1. What is the highest bitrate frequency for the toslink I/O and for the coax I/O - 96kHz or 192kHz?

A: The TOSLINK and COAX sample rate options for the Vanco PulseAudio Digital-Analog Audio Extender are 48k, 96k, or 192k at 16-bit, 18-bit, or 24-bit.

Q: 2. Is there a delay in the audio? I'm looking to use this to convert audio from my TV to a sonos Play 5.

A: No delay. It works very well for me.

Q: 3. What kind of inputs does this unit have? (Can I see a photo of the back?)

Using the D1 with my HP 15 Notebook PC it greatly improved the entire bandwidth, with cleaner, sharper mids and highs, and a tighter, fuller bottom end. I use it primarily with a pair of AKG K702 cans, which the D1 drives much better than the HP's headphone amp. Great at the price!

I am a Bass Player. I like to hook up my bass to my computer for recording or practicing. The audio out of my Apple iMac always had problems handling the low frequencies of a bass guitar through headphones. Through the analog headphone port of my iMac, I would always have distortion, compression and muddy low frequency response. The AudioEngine D1 DAC solved the problem. At first, I would stream audio back through the USB port. Then, I bought myself an optical cable that has a 3.5mm mini-toslink one end and a full size toslink on the other. I hooked up the mini-toslink end to the headphone out of my iMac which is designed to support both 3.5mm analog audio or 3.5mm optical audio. Then, I played an HD version of Creams's N.S.U. song at 24-bit 192KHz resolution. Suddenly, I heard magical things I had never heard before. I can actually hear very clearly how the recording engineer mixed the song. For example, for that particular song, Eric Clapton's voice is slightly panned right in the stereo image while Jack Bruce's voice is panned slightly left. The bass is panned pretty hard on the right side. The guitar is panned on the left side and the drum is right down the middle. Really Cool! Also, there is some spatial dimension to the recording. You hear the room. Highly recommended.

My original D1 unit is still working some eight years after buying it from B & H. I recently added another to my collection. Depending on the quality of your computers DAC--and your ears--this unit will make anything between a slight to a major improvement in the sound of music recordings being teproduced from your computer

Rarely do I fly my Steadicam without my Zen attached. The precision and accuracy is phenomenal, and calibrating it right after I've found my perfect balance is a breeze. Though I'm not always trying to keep it all green and centered up because ether shot will demand otherwise, I still love having the visual indicator in my periphery (I mount mine below my monitor with a custom 3D printed bracket) because it helps me understand the exact movement that my sled is going through or where it is in space without having to rely on visual indicators on the monitor. The pan function is really interesting but I haven't found a use for it yet. I've already done a software update through the USB-C (which can also be used to power the unit) and it's super easy, gave me new features! The customization on how you can display what axis or axes, or G-forcd even, and define the sensitivity and format of display and everything. So much packed into this simple little rectangle, it's my favorite!

I listen to music all the time, music is literally my life and I'm always looking for ways to get the best sound possible. I did a lot of research and found this to be the best DAC (digital audio converter) for the money at my price point. This little guy is seriously so easy to use. You literally just plug it VIA USB and you're done. No drivers no hassle. The best part about the whole set up is that you don't need to have it plugged in to an outlet since the D1 is powered by the USB cable. This DAC produces much cleaner sound than my on board audio card and im so happy I bought it.If you have a decent pair of head phones or a set of nice speakers I would say this is a must have. It might be a little over kill if all you use is iPod head phones. But with decent equipment plugged into the D1 you will experience some amazing audio and I believe you will be one happy camper.

Purchased the D1 to improve the sound of Google Chromecast audio "puck" - connected them together with a Google short fiber cable. Well worth the price of the D1 because Spotify now sounds musical.
