Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can the cold shoe be removed/unscrewed so as to allow a 5/8" connection?

A: The Rycote InVision On-Camera Shockmount's cold shoe mounting plate is not designed to be removed, but a 3/8 to 5/8 adapter such as BH #IMCA102 could be used for connection to a mic stand or other 5/8 mounting options.

Q: 2. Will this fit an NTG3 blimp?

A: After consulting with Rode directly, we have verified the SM8 Shockmount cannot be fitted into A RODE NTG3 Blimp.

Q: 3. Does it support well the MKH 416 with a windshield?

A: Yes, the Rycote 041138 InVision On-Camera Shockmount is compatible for use with the Sennheiser MKH 416 Shotgun Microphone with a windshield.

Q: 4. Does this have the same locking mechanism of "Rycote Universal Mount for Cameras" which some users said it is bad?

A: Yes, the locking mechanism on the Rycote InVision On-Camera Shockmount for Microphones & Cameras is the same as the one on the Rycote Universal Shotgun Mount for Cameras.

Q: 5. What plug do I use for lectrosonic I thought it was Ta5 but I only see TA4 on the 6060

A: You are correct Lectro uses a TA 5. That particular DPA doesn't come with a TA 5 connector. Only 3-Pin LEMO, 3.5mm Locking, MicroDot and TA4F.

Q: 6. How fragile is the lyre? Can you throw it in a bag with other things or would you recommend storing it safely with padded dividers/its own case?

A: Lyre material is very durable and yes you can throw it into a bag with other things.

Q: 7. Is there a Sony version of this microphone? I don't see any listing for Sony. I understand that the Sony wireless mic's have a different pin configuration for power.

A: What you could do is get the DPA Microphones 6060 CORE Subminiature Normal Sensitivity Omni Lavalier Microphone - Black (B&H # DP6060OCUB00) with a Microdot connector, not packaged with any adapter, then purchase the compatible Sony adapter separately. For the Sony adapter, you can use the DPA Microphones DAD6019 Microdot to 1/8" Mini Connector for Sony Transmitters (B&H # DPDAD6019) or the Deity Microphones DA35S Microdot to Locking 3.5mm Adapter for Sony Transmitters (B&H # DEKSMDTDA35S). The DPA adapter is made in Denmark and the Deity adapter is made in China. Both adapters will work to enable compatibility with a Sony transmitter. When purchased separately, the 6060 CORE with the Microdot connector and DPA's Microdot adapter for Sony come out to the same price as the 6060 CORE that comes packaged with the Sennheiser adapter.

Q: 8. Can anyone comment on low frequency or bass sounds recording off piano? The solitary youtube comparison video makes this system sound anemic compared with Earthworks. Thnx

A: If you were comparing these to the Earthworks PM40 Piano system, you may be hearing more resonance in the PM40's lows due to its extended low frequency range. The PM40 can pickup as low as 9hz, where as the DPA's low's start at 80hz.

Q: 9. will this work with the Rode Wireless Go II?

A: Yes. With this adapter: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/390976-REG/DPA_Microphones_DAD6034_DAD6034_MicroDot_to_Locking.html

Q: 10. Does this lav end in microdot?

A: Sorry! It is in the quick description at the top. Has a Microdot connector.

There's not much to say. It fits perfectly in the cold shoe. It fits my Sennheiser MKE 600 perfectly and the clip is springy enough to work with something a little bigger or a little smaller.

Good shock mount to use on a boompole and it works just fine. It's nice and light, and it holds my mic just fine without it bottoming out (I have a Rode NTG 4).

It works perfectly for cold shoe camera mounting but unlike other Rycote designs, the shoe is permanently attached. If you're looking for the versatility of using just a 3/8 mount and not the shoe their other model will work better. It does have a 3/8 mount on the bottom of the shoe but the tightening ring and extra length are awkward and potentially noisy.
