I had a chance to shoot few hundred pictures with D-FA* 70-200 on my K5-II this weekend. I am truly impressed. The lens is very sharp wide open, and autofocus is very accurate. Color reproduction, out of focus areas - everything is beyond my expectations. Honestly, I've not seen such image quality from any Pentax zoom (and even many of the primes) ever. The build quality is very high, nothing to complain about. I really like that the tripod support is double-purposed as a carrying handle, it's very convenient. The only thing I'm not quite happy with is the weight. The lens is really heavy, I'd recommend using a monopod with it.

I have worked with the highest performance lenses on many different formats, from many different brands: Canon, Fujifilm, Olympus, Pentax, Phase One, Sigma, Sony, Tamron, Zeiss—and this lens is among the best! It was immediately clear to me after reviewing my initial test images that this lens is likely to become my all-time favorite lens. I also own the HD Pentax-D FA* 50mm F1.4 SDM AW and, while an excellent lens itself, this 85mm demonstrates Pentax's finest work. If Pentax continues to develop D FA* lenses at this caliber, I will be a buyer for almost anything they release. If this lens is anything to go on, the K-mount has a brilliant future!

The product is great. Although weight is larger but is a great lens. I got it a few days yet but very happy.

Nice sharp lens and focuses quite fast. Very solid feeling and heavier than most 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses. Wish it had Arca-Swiss foot though.

This is a beautiful lens, and I feel fortunate to own one. It is large and heavy, but still feels good on my K1 body. The weight and size is more than worth it when you see the results, perfectly sharp even when wide open, and saturated colors with gorgeous bokeh. It took me a few days to start seeing the full potential, and to appreciate the quality of this piece of equipment. The ability to control the depth of field so tightly, allowing stunning contrasts between crystal clear focus areas and buttery smooth background opens up a whole new world of creative possibilities. Highly recommended.

This is a really well built and beautiful lens. I expected the weight and with a battery grip also on the K-1 it is a heavy kit. Although I haven’t used it much yet I expect to get plenty of use this year. It is very sharp where expected and pretty nice at 2.8. A bit of money but a much better lens than the now not made anymore Sigma 70-200 I bought a few years ago. Sure wish I had this one for the trip out west in 2018.
