Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this case be locked?

A: Yes, this case can be locked. If the front view is enlarged you will see two opposing exterior holes left and right of the closure mechanisms. Owner supplied locks may be attached here. When traveling be sure to use TSA approved locks if the case is treated as checked baggage. Otherwise, I suggest zip ties to prevent the accidental opening of the case. I fly, Jet Blue, United, Spirit and American and all treat the 1504 case as carry on.

Q: 2. What is the difference between the 1600NF model and the 1600 model

A: The 1600 comes with pluck foam and the 1600NF comes with NF or No Foam.

Q: 3. I have a Ruggard softcase that I want to put into a hard case but the Ruggard hard case is more expensive than this one is. Can you remove all of the foam inside? The case I have is 18.9 x 13.6 x 7.6.Thanks!

A: Buy the empty Pelican 1600, no foam. Save a few bucks.

Q: 4. Will a PreSonus StudioLive AR16 Mixer fit in this case?

A: We did not buy this case for the purpose of carrying around equipment. We took out the foam and installed testing equipment into the case. We have two cases, both with sensitive equipment inside, and it works very well for the security of the equipment.

Q: 5. Does this foam smell? Some foam puts out a horrible smell when it de-gasses.

A: no, I have never experienced any odor.

Q: 6. Is this the model with the pick n pluck foam?

A: Yes it is the pick & pluck foam. This case works great for me.

Q: 7. How much space does the top and bottom layer of foam take up? It says 6.12 interior height, but that's before the foam inserts.

A: Hi,I took out also top and bottom foam layer and measured them together: I got 6.2cm or 2.441 inch thickness both together. Interestingly - sum of all foam layers is giving me only 5.786 inch (14,696cm) or slightly less than reported 6.12 .

Q: 8. Does this case fit under an airplane seat? I am looking for a hard case for a D700, 24-70 and 70-200mm that could ideally fit under the seat of an airplane?

A: It is too wide to fit under an airplane seat. It's height is adequate, but not width.

Q: 9. Will a 21.5 iMac Desktop fit in this case securely? The length of my computer is 21 and the interior of this case measures 21.43 . Will it be a perfect fit or a little too snug? Thank you!

A: That would be cutting it pretty close. I do not recommend using this case with that Desktop. It will be too tight. A better choice would be the Pelican 1610 Case with Foam. Website link: http://bhpho.to/1gxMf1U

Q: 10. We're does the key go to lock this pelican 1600 case

A: The lock go on either side of the latches by the handle. It is a great case to protect the camera gear.

Just make sure you lay out everything that you want to pack before ordering a size that you think should be big enough, I guessed wrong ,so heed this advise.

I used this product to store an XHA1 w/o the sun hood. I tried to leave enough room for a future SG Pro 35mm Adapter (we'll see if it fits once I get it). Everything is super snug and it's a great, reliable case. There's four very large latches that keep the case secured. The pluck foam is also a great addition. My camera is exactly where and how I want it positioned, without having the worry of it moving about in the case. Bottom line, best case I've ever owned. Solid, secure, not too bulky, plenty of space (My camera only takes up about 1/4 of the inside at the moment).

The Pelican 1600 Case is a must have item for any amateur or professional who cares about and wants to protect their investments. I use this case to house, transport and protect my Canon 40D, in addition to my Canon EF 100-400 L Series Lens, 70-200 F2.8L IS Lens, 10-22mm Wide Angle Lens, 60mm Macro Lens, 50 mm 1.4 lens, flash, slave and other accessories. It is of durable construction, very solid without any noticeable play in the hinges. It is large enough to store most of my important equipment in one container, yet still light enough to carry. It has the ability to be locked with padlocks or combination locks for added security. This case truly protects from light, sand, dust, moisture, chemicals and impacts. Highly recommended piece of necessary equipment for anyone who has invested in photography gear

I have several Pelican cases for various pieces of equipment. They are fantastic in terms of protection and functionality. They are easy to keep clean, don't acumulate dog hair from the back of the car, and are very flexible in terms of padding configuration.

This case fits my hpx-170 and all of the other goodies perfectly. I feel safe that this case can be run over by a tank and the camera will still be fine. Not at all that heavy either

One thing I would recommend is to save the foam after you pluck it! It comes in handy for further customizing the shapes of the cavities later on. Also, get a can of dessicant. It's a must have. Another recommedation is to leave TWO squares worth of foam between your cavaties. One square is a little too flimsy and can end up breaking/tearing the more it's rubbed or moved around.
